SUMMARY:

The Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology organization seeks candidates with proven research credentials in wireless systems design, and in particular software-designed networking and routing and transport layers functionality design and evaluation, to join the Connected & Real-time Systems Group in Cork, Ireland. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong mix of academic background and applied experience in the design, prototyping, and demonstration of wireless SDN application for network optimization, SDR testbed development, and performance analysis and evaluation of IP traffic routing and assurance, and a passion for applying these skills in specialized aerospace applications.

This is a both research and engineering focused role to shape future aerospace technologies. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate outstanding track records applicable to one or more of:

  • Analysis, simulation, and prototyping of software-defined networking technology supporting orchestrator application in next-gen communication networks.
  • Development experience with open source SDN controller, switch, protocol, and application. Relevant SDN tools include OpenDaylight, ONOS, switch, OpenFlow protocol, P4 protocol, etc.
  • Dynamic optimization of network architecture and orchestration of resources within high-assurance wireless networks that guarantee service requirements and/or adopt to channel conditions.
  • Research or engineering experience in the areas of IPS mobility and multilink, safety and performance requirements analysis, and next-gen transport layer network protocol, likes QUIC, MP-QUIC, 5G-ATSSS, etc.
  • Prototyping and evaluation of high-assurance SDR-based communication system for RF frequencies up to 6 GHz on high-performance FPGA-based SDR platforms.

Knowledge of 5G/6G protocol and technology trends including advanced waveform for joint sensing and communication, RIS, MIMO, and AI-based communication and networking is highly desirable but not essential. Familiarity with aeronautical communication, navigation, and surveillance technologies is also highly desirable.

Education & Experience

  • A MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, with a few years of professional experience.
