Description:

Bradford Institute for Health Research does large epidemiological studies and works with local communities to deliver high impact research. Our data resources include Born In Bradford (www.borninbradford.nhs.uk), our flagship birth cohort study; Born In Bradford’s Better Start, which is designed to evaluate early-life interventions; BiB4All, an ongoing study of new mothers based on consented data linkage; the Age of Wonder, a large study of adolescent health that will recruit all secondary school pupils in the local authority; and Connected Bradford, a whole-population linked database including health, social care, and education records.
Together these resources make Bradford a unique place to study the determinants of health and effects of policy and healthcare interventions. We collaborate with national and international partners to study topics including childhood obesity, allergies and infections, mental health, and the urban environment.
This role will be part of the Bradford Centre for Health Data Science, a research group within the Bradford Institute for Health Research. This group specialises in applied epidemiology and quantitative methods.
Develop and register research protocols, using epidemiological study designs.
Do literature reviews.
Do statistical analyses using techniques such as matching, regression, and standardisation.
Use visualisations to describe data.
Write reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals, acting as lead author.
Contribute to research projects led by colleagues.
Collaborate with internal and external researchers and partners.
Provide leadership and mentorship to junior members of staff.
Identify sources of funding and write grant applications.
Present research at meetings and conferences.
Design and facilitate training sessions relating to epidemiology.
Recruit and manage research fellows and support staff when required.
Undertaking personal development in keeping with the aspiration to be a senior researcher
Contribute to a Born in Bradford collaborative team culture, ensuring success of Born in Bradford.
Maintain a working knowledge of current legislation regarding participation in research, including Good Clinical Practice, Research Governance and Data Protection.
