Description:

SUMMARY:

The Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology organization seeks a candidate with strong R&D credentials for a position as Senior Research Scientist, Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization. In this role, the successful candidate will focus on technologies for the development, optimization and evaluation of systems’ engineering models and prototypes in the aerospace domain. The candidate should have a wide understanding of system development and integration seeking innovative, technical-ready solutions across multiple disciplines in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and/or computer science and model-based system engineering.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A proven applied or academic research track record in a systems, electrical, mechanical, aerospace, or other related industrial/applied engineering discipline
  • A PhD degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics or a Masters degree in these areas with 3+ years of industrial or academic experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A track record in multidisciplinary system design, development and integration in the aerospace or automotive sectors
  • Previous deployment of technology-driven proof of concept prototypes supporting trade-off analyses with a focus on technology showcasing, maturation and transition
  • Demonstrated capability in advanced systems integration (more electric, more connected) driven by emerging technology paradigms
  • Experience of leading or participating in preparation of funding proposals
  • Innovative strategic and technical thinking applied to real-world problems
  • Excellent communication and project management expertise
  • Strong track record of intellectual property and patent creation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Our team works in collaboration with multiple Collins Aerospace engineering teams around the world that have expertise in domains such as electrical systems, thermo-mechanical systems, autonomous systems, hardware/software systems, communications networks, advanced manufacturing processes. We have a mission to provide accelerated and transformative integration across such domains.
As a senior research scientist, you will support this mission by advancing our capabilities in complex systems engineering including AI-based approaches, optimization, collaborative distributed design, heterogenous system decomposition, modeling and analysis, and advanced computational technologies to meet the current and future needs of our company in the aerospace systems sector.
You will work closely with colleagues across Collins Aerospace design and engineering teams to support design studies, trade-off analyses, and to transition methodologies and tools as appropriate to a wider community of practice.
