Description:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAS):

  • Ability to guide the work of others who perform essentially the same work. May organize, set priorities, schedule and review work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Micro-Biology, Chemistry, or Biology.
  • Over five (5) years of related experience.

Responsibilities:

Research Development, Design and Execution:

  • Develops, plans, designs, and conducts research.
  • Reviews progress and evaluates results forwarding the generation of new knowledge and understanding surrounding the impact of biological and mechanical activation of whole blood and blood platelets related to thrombotic events specifically targeting the bleeding and clotting continuum.
  • Manages the execution of platelet activation studies involving mechanical circulatory devices and therapeutics, monitoring of platelet and white cell activation with shear mechanical forces in a closed loop system, and novel drug discovery related to inhibitory mechanisms of platelet and WBC activation.
  • Participates in work with microfluidic systems for both research and clinical diagnostic purposes as well as other novel areas of research, newly developed technologies, and areas of exploration.
  • Reviews progress of research, evaluates research results, formulates research methods, and develops research criteria.
  • Develops innovative methods and approaches to solve scientific problems while meeting goals and objectives in accordance with priorities, time, funding and other limitations.

Publication & Grant Proposal Preparation, Writing, Facilitation:

  • Will author, co-author, present and co-present results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.
  • Participates in the acquisition of new research funding by effectively using domain expertise in tandem with a clear understanding core research capabilities for evaluating grant and industry sponsored project opportunities.
  • Participates in the strategy, structure, and development of grant proposals inclusive of grant writing, protocol development, and scope of work definition.
  • Writes scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals, books or chapter publications and presents research at national and international conferences.

Project/Lab Management:

  • Manages the execution of platelet activation studies involving mechanical circulatory devices and therapeutics, monitoring of platelet and white cell activation with shear mechanical forces in a closed loop system, and novel drug discovery related to inhibitory mechanisms of platelet and WBC activation.
  • Responsible for operation of a specialized research area or lab whereas all materials, supplies, and resources are adequately used to facilitate all designated work.
  • Formulates research methods and develops research criteria for all projects in accordance with the standards of peer reviewed journals and industry affiliates.
  • Develops and establishes functional timelines to complete assigned work to meet the requirements of the centers research obligations
  • Coordinates laboratory and field work including lab equipment management.
  • Formulates research methods. Develops or collaborates in the development of new techniques, methods, and equipment.
  • Contributes to ensuring regulatory compliance of the research program by coordinating with senior leadership and the executive team to meet the reporting requirements of granting agencies as required by the research program.
