Avantor is looking for a Senior Cell Biology Research Technician to join the team based in Cambridge. In this position you’ll take ownership of delivery of support activities to our client’s cell culture and banking science function and operating in accordance with H&S and GLS requirements.
This role will be a full-time temporary position (12-months FTC), based in brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working hours: All day on Saturdays and Sundays with potential of working on Mondays and Fridays
The Team
You’ll be a part of newly established Cell Biology group of 3. The team is responsible for a range of laboratory tasks including cell culture, cell harvesting, cell banking, QC sampling, associated documentation and tracker updates and handover from and to the science team pre and post shift.
You’ll be part of initial test phase pilot programme, with a possibility for the position to become a permanent upon the successful completion of the project.

What we’re looking for

  • Education: Biological Science Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience:
  • Multiple years’ experience operating within a cell science laboratory, leading laboratory technicians and conducting a cell culture techniques training
  • Cell and tissue culture and aseptic techniques
  • Planning and scheduling and agile delegation of activities and tasks
  • Using IT systems, platforms and generic applications (training provided for on in house specifics)
  • Laboratory knowledge of research processes and procedures, compliance to Health and Safety regulations and requirements

How you’ll thrive and create an impact

  • Performing routine cell culture and banking, reagent and media preparation and aliquoting, QC sample preparation and testing
  • Managing and coordinating cellular task requests and handover
  • Act as the Point of Contact for the cell bank and science teams, actively engaging to accurately capture requirements and individual requests
  • Ensure appropriate and effective delegation of tasks during the shift, to optimise outputs whilst ensuring product quality and consistency (potential direct line management responsibilities)
