JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION >

We are looking to recruit to a new post of Senior Revenue Officer to work in the Revenue Section which comes under the Finance Directorate of the council. The Revenue Section is responsible for helping to maximise the councils from Council Tax and Business Rates. The job will involve helping to maintain the records 5,500 commercial properties that pay Business Rates and 1,400 premises that come under the Tourism Business Improvement District that spans Torbay.
The Senior Revenue Officer will assist in ensuring that quality assurance measures are in place, as well as providing support to team members when there are enquiries relating to liability, payments, property charges, and HMRC Valuation Office agency.
The role will involve assisting the Business Rate Team Leader to prioritise work and ensuring that the local rating list is maintained in accordance with HMRC Valuation Office Agency records.
Involvement in the implementation of future service improvements will also form part of the job.
Having an eye for detail, coupled with the ability to make decisions in accordance with Business Rate legislation is key in ensuring the risk of fraud is minimised and the council’s income targets are met.
The successful applicant is likely to have experience of working as part of a team in a customer focused role where they have either worked alongside other council departments, external agencies, and stakeholders, or have a similar working background. Being able to prioritise your own work as well as that of the team will make up a large part of this role.

Essential:

  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent.
  • Background of working in a local authority environment.
