Job Summary
The Senior Risk Analyst is responsible for identifying, collecting and analysing data from various sources, such as financial statements, operational risk and credit risk reports, market trends, industry reports, and regulatory frameworks, to create risk models, scenarios and reports using statistical and analytical tools. He or she will support VisionFund International’s (VFI) Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team in assessing and quantifying the risks faced by the organization globally. He or she will be in constant coordination with the Global Directors of Operational Risk and Credit Risk and with the Senior Risk Manager to provide support for Risk reporting to the VFI Board and in other regular risk reporting.
A new central repository will be established and managed by the Senior Risk Analyst to house VFI and associated Microfinance Institutions (MFI) Risk Policies. He or she will support the development and roll out of stress testing and scenario planning tools for the MFI network.
There will be a need to undertake miscellaneous projects on behalf of the Chief Risk Officer and the wider risk team as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for co-ordinating, developing, producing and improving the numerical analysis required by the Senior Risk Manager in relation to the Reporting pack for the Audit & Risk Committee of the VFI Board. New areas of risk and concerning trends identified, analysed will be reported on by the Senior Risk Analyst.
  • Responsible for developing and undertaking Operational Risk and Credit Risk data analysis. Identifying trends and producing content that will be included in regular risk reporting, with special attention to the quarterly operational risk metrics reported by the MFIs. This will support the work of the Operational Risk and Credit Risk Directors
  • Responsible for establishing and managing a central repository or database of the VFI and MFI Board approved risk policies. Such database will facilitate the Senior Risk Manager, with support of the entire Enterprise Risk Management team, to ensure that VFI Risk Policies are cascaded and communicated as appropriate to the relevant MFIs.
  • Responsible for supporting the development of Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Stress Testing and Scenario Analysis tools to be rolled out to the MFIs.
  • Responsible for monitoring the usage of Watchdog Blocked Party Screening, through a new monthly operational risk metric to provide visibility/reporting of it in VFI. The MFIs will need to be contacted and followed up where usage falls below expected levels or where potential hit matches haven’t been cleared.
  • Miscellaneous ad hoc projects, as required by the Chief Risk Officer and the wider Risk Team. The prioritisation of this to be managed by the Global Director of Operational Risk.

Required Professional Experience

  • Experience of analysing data and information identifying the areas of heightened risk and the reasons behind the trends seen
  • Knowledge of a Risk Appetite Statement and how to report against this
  • Experience of communicating in both written and verbal formats to stakeholders the root causes behind the trends observed
  • Experience of designing and delivering stress testing and scenario analysis models
  • Experience of delivering training to groups and/or one-on-one coaching
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, in a globally dispersed team
  • Proven ability to manage projects and achieve through others
  • Demonstrable skill at producing high quality reports and presentations for line managers/stakeholders
  • Ability to gather and collate data from multiple sources around the globe, relying on influence to ensure stakeholders meet quality standards and deadlines
  • Skilled with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and aptitude for learning new data management and presentation platforms (e.g. PowerBI)
  • Experience of working and communicating with staff at all levels
  • Relevant Experience in data analysis and reporting for at least 3-5 years

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • Undergraduate degree preferably in quantitative or analytical field, relating to actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or business engineering.
  • Licentiate or master degree would be considered a plus.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Additional Risk Professional Qualification preferred (from GARP, IRM, COSO, ISO, etc.)
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of French would be considered a plus

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

  • In a local country office, depending on hosting country requirements. 5% possibility of overseas travel, as required
