JOB SUMMARY

Provides consultative risk control services to AMERIND members and customers, working in an advisory capacity to make risk management and safety recommendations. Brings value to clients and broker partners, protecting assets, mitigating losses, and reducing the likelihood of loss. Serves AMERIND Underwriting with detailed reports from commercial property surveys, liability risk assessments, transportation audits, high hazard evaluations, and risk control evaluations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Business Management, Risk Management, or related field and a minimum of five years’ experience in Risk Control or Loss Control.
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM) preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Travel required over 50% of time.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation. No felony, theft, or fraud convictions on record.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • New employees must complete the Associate in Insurance (AINS) designation within six months from the end of the 90-day evaluation period to be eligible for advancement and incentive compensation.
  • For continued employment, employees must complete an elective course and six hours of professional development within 12 months after the end of the 90-day evaluation period.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of fraud detection.
  • Knowledgeable of internal investigation and interview techniques.
  • Knowledgeable of standard principles and practices in areas of specialty.
  • Knowledgeable in commercial property & casualty insurance, workers compensation, professional liability, directors & officers, commercial auto, and other lines of coverage.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
  • Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing with staff and the public.
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and accomplish tasks within strict deadlines.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to operate various environmental equipment.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; plan and conduct safety training to individuals and groups and conduct effective meetings.
  • Ability to investigate, gather data, compile information, analyze information, draw conclusions, and prepare reports.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.

  • Working Conditions & Physical Demands
  • Typical business office setting with moderate noise level and outdoor settings with a high noise level.
  • A non-office environment may be encountered for offsite presentations and support of company activities.
  • Exposure to natural weather conditions and temperatures, various dusts, smoke and mists, and normal debris and hazards may occur while performing outdoor duties.
  • Must be able to sit for work at a computer for more than 6 hours per day.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for more than 6 hours per day when on client site or at events.
  • Must be able to use hands for dexterity of motion and reach with hands and arms. Extensive use of computer keyboards.
  • Frequently required to talk and hear.
  • Must have ability to occasionally lift 40+ lbs.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, members, industry leaders, and broker-partner network and serve as a trusted advisor on risk control and mitigation strategies internally and externally.
  • Provides consultation and resources to Tribal members, Indian Housing Authorities, Tribal Governments, Commercial Tribal Casinos, and Tribal Enterprises, as well as AMERIND board members, stakeholders, and employees.
  • Conducts comprehensive commercial property surveys and liability risk assessments for commercial clients/Tribal members to identify potential risk exposures and hazards and to recommend improved risk controls.
  • Prepares detailed risk assessment and property survey reports outlining findings, recommendations, and action plans.
  • Maintains proper and accurate records of client interactions, risk assessments, property surveys, recommendations, and implemented risk control measures.
  • Develops annual service plans with underperforming members, outlining goals and objectives for improved loss experience.
  • Designs, facilitates, and delivers quality risk management and safety training programs to promote understanding of key risk control issues within Indian Country.
  • Practices sound principles for data analysis to uncover risk patterns, loss trends, and relationships within large datasets.
  • Grows a “Culture of Safety” within Indian Country through education, collaboration, establishment of standards.
  • Remains on the cutting-edge of industry techniques, technology, and principles by conducting graduate-level research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, participating in professional societies, and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Supports AMERIND Underwriting, Claims, and Business Development teams from the field, offering valuable analysis and insight to improve customer service to drive overall results.
  • Supports the efforts of AMERIND’s Safety Committee in safeguarding personnel and company assets, preparing the organization and its personnel for potential accidents or emergencies, and aiding organizational response and post-incident recovery efforts as necessary.
  • Participates in cross-functional team process improvement projects in support of AMERIND’s culture to build teamwork, collaboration, and inclusiveness among team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
