Description:

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Senior Scientist – Particle investigations, located in Beerse – Belgium.
Based on your professional experience and educational background, we have the flexibility to tailor the position’s level and responsibilities accordingly.
Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) is part of the Global Analytical Development organization within the Therapeutics Development & Supply (TDS) - Synthetics department. AMCI is a complementary team of approx. 40 scientists, leading global analytical investigations and advanced characterization for the Synthetic Molecules R&D and commercial product portfolio.
Within the subunit Particulate systems and metals, we are currently looking for a highly motivated analytical scientist in the field of Particle investigations (e.g. identification of extraneous matter), advanced imaging & container closure integrity.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry or related field.
  • Experience in abovementioned analytical techniques, in particular microscopy and interpretation of spectral data.
  • Sense of urgency is crucial to ensure product safety and quality, protecting consumers from potential health risks and compliance to industry GMP standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • In-depth understanding of drug substance & pharmaceutical product manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex technical information.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficient written and oral English communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Identification of unknown particles/materials through a range of microscopy / imaging techniques and (hyphenated) spectroscopical techniques.
  • Relevant techniques include but are not limited to:
  • Optical microscopy, SEM-EDS, IR / Raman (microscopy), µCT, etc.
  • Samples may be studied in-situ or after specific sample preparation / extraction depending on the product specifics.
  • Strengthen the combination products testing capabilities in AMCI for e.g. container closure integrity testing / mechanical testing / ….
  • Contribute to a broad range of analytical investigations incl. counterfeit, market complaints, dissolution support, etc.
  • Application of advanced imaging to study the microstructure of dosage forms.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis in cross functional teams (e.g. chemists, formulators & process engineers)
  • Responsible for internal & external collaborations
  • Prepare CAPEX investment plans to consolidate (and expand) capabilities.
