Salary: $69,560 - $86,951 annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

POSITION SUMMARY
This role will lead simple projects and have oversight from senior staff on more complex projects. The projects will vary in complexity. The ideal candidate for the role is a passionate and skilled interdisciplinary team member dedicated to supporting a large-scale innovation project aimed at revolutionizing elder care in the community. Proficient in various design methodologies and capable of guiding concepts from discovery to implementation. Excels at translating service concepts into visual design assets and applying human-centered design to complex social issues. Furthermore, the ideal candidate is enthusiastic about designing, prototyping, and implementing solutions collaboratively with community members, prioritizing inclusive, accessible, and engaging design practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Bachelor’s required
- Master’s Degree in Design (an asset)
- Relevant degree programs: Service Design, Inclusive Design, Design for Health, Environmental Design, Graphic Design or other related field
- 2+ years of work experience using human-centred design processes in healthcare, government, community development, urban planning or other relevant field
- Strong portfolio highlighting service design implementation, design research, systems thinking and project management
- Experience with internal innovation or demonstrated ability to navigate a large complex organization
- Experience with community engagement practices: events, installations, or other place-based engagement activities
- Experience with placemaking activations: co-design, rapid prototyping, sketching and digital mock-ups
- Passion for building relationships in communities
- Skilled in creating visual assets such as journey maps, service blueprints, presentation decks, and prototyping materials in a variety of mediums
- Experience with various design software, including: Adobe Design Suite, Sketch, InVision, Google Slides, Powerpoint
- Experience planning and executing co-design facilitation sessions
- Knowledge of Ontario health care system and quality improvement processes is an asset
- Knowledge of aging in place, accessibility and inclusive design is an asset
Responsibilities:
- Support the design and delivery of services and programs that promote healthy aging in NORCs
- Lead simple projects with direct oversight by Lead/Managers
- Support complex projects
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team that includes other designers, researchers, program and project managers, front-line staff and clinicians to integrate innovation, design, and technology into viable solutions
- Support teams through the design cycle (from discovery to delivery) using methodologies including ethnography, cultural probes, journey mapping, co-design, rapid prototyping and other appropriate techniques. Experience with UX is an asset.
- Translate complex ideas into compelling stories for a variety of stakeholders (government, media, front-line workers, older adults and caregivers, general public) both verbally and visually
- Produce design assets, including service blueprints, storyboards, journey maps, placemaking assets and other prototypes
- Plans and facilitates design sessions with both internal and external stakeholders
- Support the design and delivery of NORC Talks, a monthly gathering of older adults
- Develop design briefs and written reports as needed
