JOB DESCRIPTION:

L3Harris is seeking an experienced, hands-on Mission Assurance Quality Engineer to join our talented team. This is an opportunity to take on unique challenges, expand your skills and experience, and contribute to our Telemetry & RF products that support war fighters for the U.S.A. and our allies. You will join a team of talented professionals with world-class technical expertise who take a collaborative approach.
In this position, you will be responsible for the oversight of quality assurance for Telemetry & RF products and for implementation of quality procedures and practices congruent with quality standards such as AS9100 as well as specific customer requirements. This position will provide technical expertise in reliability engineering to Quality and Mission Assurance Management in performing oversight of all lifecycle phases including requirements, design, development, testing and programmatic efforts. The role responds to requirements, design, development, testing and programmatic concerns. In addition, this individual will be supporting design and failure review boards/investigations, milestone reviews and aiding in the implementation of the reliability program.
The ideal candidate will have a background in cycle-time, cost, and quality improvements using Six Sigma, Lean, and statistical tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in Quality or Manufacturing within defense or technology industries.
  • Experience understanding and applying quality standards such as defined by ISO9001 or AS9100 or military specifications or equivalent.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • Master’s Degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience leading the Root-Cause/Corrective-Action process and Failure Review Board.
  • Experience in Failure Analysis.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drawings, test procedures and equipment, material review board, contract review and interpretation, and configuration control.
  • Background in electronics, inspection, soldering and workmanship (J-STD-001 and Inspection Standard IPC-A-610), work plans, and assembly practices.
  • Experience with Parts, Materials, and Processing (PMP) with DoD systems
  • Trained in the development, creation, and usage of metrics.
  • Training in Advanced Product Quality Planning, Six Sigma, or Lean techniques.
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task on many different projects at once.
  • Ability to make technical decisions and complete project objectives within budget and schedule.
  • Secret security clearance desired.
  • Ability to understand detailed circuitry and/or software.
  • Ability to lead Kaizen events.
  • Currently possess an active DOD secret security clearance
  • Certified Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • Certified Quality Engineer.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of MDA quality and mission assurance requirements by providing technical evaluations of developer designs for subcomponents, assemblies, and integrated systems associated with MDA programs and providing subject matter expertise for the identification, evaluation, and mitigation of risks associated with various aspects of the design, development, manufacturing, fielding and operation of MDA systems.
  • Provide insight into implementation and execution of MDA MAP and PMAP requirements on MDA development efforts.
  • Support the review, coordination, and response to agency internal taskers from a mission assurance perspective.
  • Assist with the development, dissemination, and implementation of emerging MDA mission assurance policies and requirements including but not limited to, directives, policies, memorandums, standard operating procedures, operating instructions, and advisories.
  • Provide technical support or present government opinions at senior level meetings as a mission assurance representative.
  • Provide strategic recommendations related to identifying and addressing mission assurance trends and patterns affecting missile defense systems, elements, and components.
  • Evaluate the current risk level of baseline system designs, as well as the impact of baseline changes to the overall system risk profile; assist in communicating issues and risks; and prepare risk notification reports.
  • Quality Assurance interface to customers and vendors on assigned programs or products.
  • Act as Quality Engineering representative on assigned integrated product teams (IPTs).
  • Interpret contract specifications and develop and implement Quality Assurance plans and procedures to meet requirements.
  • Write Quality Processes as needed in support of the AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Ensure Engineering, Manufacturing, and other functions meet Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Review engineering documents and manufacturing instructions for completeness, correctness, and comprehension by manufacturing personnel.
  • Identify critical characteristics of processes and products and develop associated control plans.
  • Perform First Article Inspection and reporting as per AS9102.
  • Develop, track, and report metrics.
  • Lead failure review boards and perform root-cause/corrective action to resolve or prevent failures.
  • Develop or assist in implementing test procedures and in analyzing and interpreting test results.
  • Audit processes performed by employees.
  • Assist with bid and proposals efforts.
  • Assist with Job Improvement Forms
