Competitive Salary: Band 6 ($98,867) + 11.5% superannuation
Location: Corporate Centre in Sandringham, with the flexibility to work from home

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

An exciting opportunity exists to make a real difference to our beautiful Bayside municipality where you will be working to ensure proper and orderly land use, development and arboricultural outcomes within the Bayside Planning Scheme and related local laws and strategies.
As a Statutory Planner, you will understand and interpret a variety of Planning and Subdivision legislation, the Bayside Planning Scheme and planning policy and principles. You will deliver a high standard of service to our applicants, community and other stakeholders, and will demonstrate the ability to use the relevant software platforms to support the service.

You will be responsible for:

  • Proactively managing a caseload of all planning application types in Bayside including residential, commercial, activity centre and various other matters.
  • Understand and interpret the various legislations, regulations and other frameworks within which the statutory planning service functions.
  • Provide a professional and technically strong understanding of the Bayside Planning Scheme and the framework within which planning applications of all types are assessed and decided on.
  • Support and mentor the broader Statutory Planning unit by using technical knowledge to provide updates, analysis and customer service to different groups.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and other forums to promote the Statutory Planning service within Bayside City Council and externally.
  • Preparation of applications, responses and submissions on behalf of Bayside City Council at the Planning & Amenity Committee, Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and other forums.

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • Proven ability to accurately apply Planning Schemes, relevant policies and legislation in providing information to customers about planning related matters within established protocols, guidelines and parameters.
  • Proven ability to provide accurate, specialist information and advice to customers regarding various facets of statutory planning related matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, as well as planning process administration and records management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a very high standard of service to customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or associated fields of expertise and/or experience that will enable the successful undertaking of the requirements of the position
