Description:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

  • Experience with static stress analysis and fatigue analysis using both FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and classical techniques.
  • Experience with stress analysis of metallic and advanced composite structure including repairs on bonded metallic and composite structure.
  • Experience using Nastran/Pastran for FEA
  • Basic knowledge of 3D modeling software
  • Microsoft Office experience: Excel, Word, PowerPoint

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Programming skills (VBA, VB.NET, C#.NET, etc.) for internal tool development activities to aid in task automation
  • Airframe/aerospace design experience
  • Patran or equivalent post processor
  • Experience communicating and presenting to external customers.
  • Experience working on aircraft modifications and/or in an MRO environment performing design to return aircraft to an airworthy condition
  • Experience working in manufacturing and assembly operations environments

Responsibilities:

Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Stress Engineer who will represent the Engineering organization through tactical and strategic support of the operations team. You will provide technical expertise throughout the product design, build, and delivery processes for complex, integrated aircraft components of advanced composite construction. You will also drive meaningful improvements in Engineering Production Support processes through understanding the designs, performing structural analysis and a relentless focus on continuous improvement. In addition, you will have exposure to multiple programs as well as global collaboration with both internal and external customers. You will have an opportunity to work directly with engineered hardware on multiple platforms alongside manufacturing, engineering and quality organizations.

  • The position is working onsite at our Foley, Alabama facility.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulate structural analysis of a complex nature using hand calculations and computer analysis, including static stress, fatigue stress, fracture, and fatigue structural analysis of aerospace components.
  • Define, direct, and document repair designs and assess the structural integrity of various metallic, bonded metallic and advance composite structure for aerospace products.
  • Analyze repair proposals and prepare formal reports in support of minor and major repairs for customer and FAA approval, up to obtaining authorized signature authority.
  • Analyze materials and processes as well as approved alternates.
  • Develop processes and tools to support continuous improvement and efficiency realizations throughout the Engineering Production Support workflow activities, including maintaining the defect mapping database and design mapping.
  • Interacts with Operations and Engineering personnel to highlight and drive implementation of cost reduction improvements across product lines and processes.
  • Review, quantify, and drive support of defect corrective action plans across the product lines.
  • Support manufacturing and / or engineering escape resolution through regular interaction with Quality Assurance personnel and Mechanics.
  • Support product development teams through defect eradication and producibility feedback early in the product lifecycle to drive improved lessons learned.
  • Communicate both written and verbally to present technical data to leadership.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
