The School of Politics and Economics includes the Department of Political Economy, the Department of European and International Studies and King’s Russia Institute and is dedicated to rich interdisciplinary scholarship on the links between politics and economics with internationally renowned research on European integration and governance and Russia’s society, policy, and economic impact on global affairs.
Student Engagement is an evolving, innovative and collaborative part of student’s university experience, integral to enhancing student community, sense of belonging, student-staff partnerships and providing spaces for students to shape their education.
About the role
The Senior Student Engagement Officer is a dynamic role responsible for building a sense of community across the three departments in the School of Politics and Economics, from the coordination and delivery of Welcome and induction activities, co-curricular events, career-readiness and mentoring, through to graduation and alumni relations. This role supports the Student Engagement Manager to deliver faculty and school priorities, such as transition, widening participation, student rep elections, committees and forums, student voice and equality, diversity and inclusion.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract. This role is suitable for someone with excellent interpersonal communication, organisation skills, attention to detail, ability to adapt and prioritise workload. This role is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with a wide-range of stakeholders including students, professional service, teaching staff and senior leadership.
About You
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Excellent communication skills including well-honed use of English adaptable for both formal correspondence and writing for online communications.
2. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and build effective working relationships with students, academic and non-academic colleagues.
3. Substantial experience in administration and event management from conception to delivery, with the ability to adapt to different formats (on campus, online programmes), preferably in an academic environment.
4. Excellent IT skills, including Office, Windows, databases, internet, and social media.
5. Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads in a busy environment and an ability to demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to work, taking the initiative to progress ideas and proposals through the appropriate channels
6. Experience of managing feedback mechanisms including surveys and focus groups with the ability to collate, analyse and present outcomes of this data to key stakeholders.
7. Strong commitment and desire to improve the student experience with an understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable criteria
1. Educated to degree level/holds equivalent level qualification
2. Experience of working within the Higher Education sector, ideally based within a faculty, school or department and/or substantial experience of working in a customer focused environment
