Boeing is seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer to join our team in a virtual capacity.
The Boeing AvionX Safety Team wants career engineers interested in exploring and analyzing the design of commercial and military aircraft systems during their development, modification, and operational phases. The team’s broad work statement will have you performing safety analysis at the component, system, and avionics level, on a wide range of different aircraft systems across the entire family of Boeing and airplanes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • ARP 4754 Systems and Safety Driven Development Standards including architectural understanding and derivation and decomposition
  • Experience with requirement generation, verification planning, and safety considerations
  • ARP 4761 In depth knowledge for safety driven development, verification, and validation methods including development of the following safety artifacts: Driving Functions List, FHA, PSSA, SSA, FTA, and overall Hazard Mitigation process.
  • Experience with Development Traceability for hazards into SW and HW per DO-178 and DO-254
  • Experience with Commercial Certification Basis and Military Mil Handbook 516 Certification Basis.

TYPICAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, analyzes, and assesses regulatory and/or contractual compliance of aerospace systems, products and services against the applied development and design assurance standards to provide the necessary hazard mitigation evidence.
  • Conducts systems research and analysis to identify potential failure conditions or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns using qualitative and quantitative methods per the safety assessment process.
  • Identifies safety issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices (ARP4761 Commercial and MIL STD-882 for Military).
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety requirements.
  • Verifies that the system meets or exceeds the defined safety requirements by conducting safety analyses, audits, and reviews.
  • Creates and maintains aerospace safety tools and resources.
  • Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigations, and validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
  • Demonstrates safety hazard risk mitigation and control methods to the customer and regulators.
  • Establishes and promotes safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods.
