About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Red Ochre Autonomy and Sensors business unit reporting to the Project Engineering Manager. This role can be based in either SA – Edinburgh Parks or ACT-Canberra or NSW - RAAF Glenbrook.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
You will perform system engineering activities associated with the design, build, installation, configuration and set to work of a range of ICT infrastructure and supporting peripherals in support of extant customer capability systems.
You will support the Project Engineering Manager on additional complex project planning including engineering lifecycle elements of bid responses and client engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake engineering work under a system lifecycle management framework and in accordance with the customer mandated technical regulatory framework
  • Undertake analysis and design of ICT/ network/ communications systems, generally using off the shelf equipment
  • Implement a range of ICT system solutions supporting third-party applications in Windows and Unix environments
  • Participate in system design and subsystem partitioning to achieve robust modular architectures
  • Utilize the relevant elements of the Systems Engineering discipline to ensure enabling, supporting and delivered products robustly and demonstrably meet their requirements and are fit for purpose
  • Develop work statements and technically manage suppliers
  • Provide Engineering status and metrics reporting
  • Participate in ensuring that designs meet all statutory and regulatory requirements

About YOU

  • A University degree level engineering qualification preferably within Systems or ICT discipline
  • Demonstrated systems engineering experience coupled with engineering experience in a relevant discipline
  • Proven ability to function confidently within a project team environment with demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with employees and customers at all levels
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of a range of infrastructure and application ICT technologies, including but not limited to:
  • Windows and/or Unix Operating System software stacks
  • Relational Database technologies, implemented by products such as Sybase, SQL Server, Oracle and others
  • Virtualisation technologies implemented by products such as VMWare, RHEV and HyperV
  • A range of ICT tools and products including Microsoft Office suite, JIRA, Objective and SharePoint
  • Gateway system architectures and network protocols, systems and architectures
  • Working knowledge of a range of ICT technologies and protocols including HTTP, SSL, XML and others
  • Scripting and programming languages appropriate for current and future projects. (Note, this is not a programming role, but an awareness of the Software Development Lifecycle and related methods and tools would be advantageous)
  • Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
  • This role requires eligibility to access data and systems managed under the International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
