Description:

Wenco International Mining Systems (www.wencomine.com), a subsidiary of Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM), provides industry leading, innovative technologies to customers in the mining and material movement sectors, enabling sustainable and safe operations.
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer (Automation Systems) in Brisbane, Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development
  • Support the product and delivery teams in identifying and refining requirements and deriving testable specifications from those requirements
  • Contribute and lead a ‘build quality in’ mindset and culture within the team and implement systems and processes to support appropriate quality outcomes for deliverables
  • Contribute to standards and ways of working to enable growth of a high capability systems engineering team
  • Contribute code to products, software platforms and test frameworks both as a Scrum team member and as a cross organizational systems engineering contributor
  • Collaborate with, and support the Simulation group to employ simulation capabilities in order to derive better outcomes for our customers and teams
  • Technical leadership
  • Be relentless in pursuit of continuous improvement
  • Promote a culture of quality and technical excellence within the development team
  • Support the Systems Engineering Lead in the development and implementation of systems engineering and product development best practices
  • Mentor others in the team
  • Work with the Product Owner to help set direction for the team
  • Coordinate with globally distributed 3rd party development teams
  • Product development support
  • Interface with product management/owners and developers to define and improve requirements and automated and manual test cases.

Qualifications & Skills

  • You have 5+ years’ experience working on complex systems comprised of edge and cloud computing elements, sensing and sensor processing communicating using fixed and wireless networks
  • You have a strong software development background, preferably in Python and C++
  • You have worked with complex distributed systems with interactions between sensors, edge computing, fixed and wireless communications channels
  • You enjoy working as a mentor for other engineers and operating as a role model for the culture and technical excellence in your team.
  • You enjoy working in an environment where you are learning new technologies and new concepts and solving complex problems with your team.

Nice to Have

  • You have prior experience with the mining industry and/or mining operational system Fleet Management or Autonomous Equipment
  • You have experience working with cloud environments such as AWS or Azure

Education & Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia
  • This role may require some travel to customers sites or international Wenco offices (< 15%)
