  • Free parking.

As the centre of excellence for tax matters at DB Breweries, this role focuses on mastering tax optimization for DB Group and Australian Group (Drinkworks and SBM). You’ll collaborate with top tax experts (PwC and Deloitte) and internal teams to decode complex tax laws and devise the best tax strategies. Ensuring seamless compliance with excise regulations, you’ll lead an excise task force and build strong relationships with key regulatory bodies (ATO, IRD, Customs NZ, and Australian Border Force) to ideally ensure that DB is not subject to audits. Additionally, you’ll pioneer automated tax solutions using advanced tools like AI and Taxlab.

Key Accountabilities:

  • As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NZ and Australia, you’ll manage income, indirect, and excise tax developments, lead monthly meetings on global tax considerations, and optimize tax expenses while ensuring compliance. You’ll also handle transfer pricing, documenting positions for all four Operation Companies (OpCos) to identify and manage risks.
  • Own the excise tax processes for NZ and Australian OpCos, ensuring compliance with authorities.
  • Work cross-functionally to maintain adherence to defined processes and promptly update excise rate changes in the SAP system.
  • Oversee income and indirect tax compliance, including the annual tax return filing for NZ and AU entities, and coordinate with tax advisors on provisional tax payments.
  • Monitor and reconcile the Group Imputation Credit Account to avoid penalties, review thin cap positions, manage uncertain tax positions, and facilitate the preparation and lodgement of various indirect tax returns (GST, FBT, WET, NRWT).
  • Collaborate with regional and global tax teams to review transfer pricing documentation before submission to tax advisors.
  • Ensure full compliance of NZ and AU OpCos with required schemes and disclosures such as BEPS, International Questionnaire, hybrid mismatch, and Country-by-Country reporting.
  • Lead accurate recording and reconciliation of income tax transactions, including expenses, deferred assets, and liabilities. Implement Heineken BSAR processes, manage tax-related accounts, and ensure timely compliance with tax authority requirements like the Australia Payment Time Report.
  • Coordinate with local and global ICFR teams on tax reviews and internal controls, and work with Strategic Finance teams or other financial business control teams on annual plans and forecasts.
  • Serve as SME for complex tax guidance and model various tax scenarios as needed.

Your background and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting
  • 5+ years of experience in Accounting, Tax, or Audit, preferably with multinational or chartered accountant firms
  • Proficiency in SAP/BW systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills, adept at extracting insights from complex, ambiguous data
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with senior managers and external stakeholders.
