  • Strong understanding of accounting in general and specifically in accounting for income taxes under IFRS.

  • QByte experience and exposure are considered beneficial, but not required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business, or related discipline.
  • Ideally 10 to 12 years of Canadian Corporate Tax experience.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities:

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Sinopec Canada has a unique opportunity for a Senior Tax Analyst to join our Finance Team. Reporting to the Manager, Tax and Clean Energy, this role is responsible for preparing tax accounting and tax compliance within the Canadian business units of the organization. This role will provide the successful candidate with a wonderful opportunity to develop their Canadian tax expertise and establish a strong technical tax foundation within a stable, diversified oil and natural gas company. You will be part of a high performing multidisciplinary team. After gaining a strong foundation in Sinopec Canada’s tax matters, the successful candidate will be groomed and mentored into a Sinopec Canada Tax leadership role.
The Senior Tax Analyst will be based in Sinopec Canada’s Calgary, Alberta head office. We currently enjoy a hybrid office schedule, with the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation of tax provisions for Sinopec Canada, including related financial statement disclosure.
  • Preparation of the Canadian income tax filings and compliance requirements for Sinopec Canada’s corporate group.
  • Assisting with Canadian federal and provincial tax audits, interfacing with various Canadian tax authorities.
  • Maintaining tax attribute calculations, including adjusted cost bases, etc.
  • Providing tax support to Canadian business units.
  • Interacting with third party tax advisors in partial support of the above-mentioned duties.
  • Supporting and assisting in Canadian tax planning strategies, recommendations, and implementation.
  • Preparing memos/internal communications in support of tax technical positions taken in statutory filings and related to proposed/newly enacted legislation/tax law changes.
  • Preparing annual expatriate Canadian T1 personal tax returns.
  • Assisting with preparation of transfer pricing documentation.
  • Conducting other ad-hoc research and analytics as required.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Manager, Tax and Clean Energy.
