Position Title: Senior Technology Specialist - Data Developer/Modeler
Reports To: Senior Technology Manager, Data Delivery
Department: Data & Integration Platform
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

We are looking for a highly motivated Data Developer/Modeler to join Equitable’s Technology team. The role will contribute to Equitable’s Data Hub architecture vision by establishing and executing on the EQ Datahub framework within the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform, using best practices and industry standards. As a Data Developer/Modeler, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing data models that underpin our applications and systems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, analyze business requirements, and create robust data structures. If you’re passionate about data architecture, have a keen eye for detail, and enjoy solving complex puzzles, we’d love to hear from you! You will look for direction from the Team Leader.

The Data Developer/Modeler will collaborate with the Architects, DevOps members and team members to define target state data solutions. Responsibilities:

  • Understand our business intelligence strategies and roadmaps and ensure your contributions align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Design and implement data models, data warehouses using Microsoft Azure technologies.
  • Translate business requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and developers to ensure data models align with business goals.
  • Evaluate existing data systems and propose improvements.
  • Define naming conventions, data types, and relationships.
  • Create data flow diagrams and maintain data dictionaries.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize data models for performance.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Participate in data governance initiatives.
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate and present data insights and recommendations to senior team members in a clear and compelling way.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in business intelligence and data analytics.
  • Analyzing existing BI solutions and meet with team members to discuss transition plan to Microsoft Azure/PowerBI.
  • Being transparent with the team about challenges, failures, and successes.
  • Supporting the production environment and the daily/monthly batch processes
  • You’ll work with various Azure data storage options, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure Blob Storage.
  • You’ll develop and implement data integration processes using tools like Azure Data Factory.
  • You’ll create data processing workflows and pipelines to support data analytics and operational reporting.
  • Building and managing data pipelines, design and maintain documentation for data models, database schemas, and SQL code.
