Description:

Educational/experience requirements: Ph.D. in toxicology, pharmacology, chemistry or related life science 7-10 years of relevant experience.
This Position involves providing support for review and evaluation of toxicological data and QA support to several government agencies, including EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs and National Toxicology Program (NTP) under NIEHS. The position requires extensive experience in the planning, development, and conduct of scientific experiments and in the analysis and critical evaluation of scientific data. Detailed knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) is required along with experience in quality assurance (QA) audits.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing data audits of completed NTP toxicology studies; validating reported study results; and training audit teams in performing in-depth retrospective data audits.
  • Review and evaluation of published and unpublished data on pesticides and other chemicals of environmental concern for compliance with Federal regulations, including data requirements for pesticides under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act.
  • Review of toxicology studies on pesticides and other chemicals of environmental concern.
  • Preparation of reports summarizing results from various EPA Test Guideline studies on conventional, biochemical and microbial pesticides, and assessment of study adequacy and the impact of the study findings on pesticide registrations or proposes uses.
  • Review of toxicological data and assessment of lowest-adverse effect levels (LOAELs) and no-adverse effect levels (NOAELs)
  • Statistical analysis of toxicology data
  • Data audits and quality assurance reviews of reports prepared by other scientists.
  • Use of toxicology and exposure data in the development of risk assessments.

The successful candidate should have

  • A thorough understanding of experimental design and analysis, including experience in the statistical evaluation of experimental data;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience in the preparation and editing of technical reports in clear standard English; and
  • Proficiency in the use of MS-Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access).
