Description:
Applicants are invited to apply for a full time Senior Clinical Fellow in Gastrointestinal Radiology with an interest in CT and US guided intervention. The successful candidate will be supervised by 6 Radiologists with an interest in gastrointestinal radiology who provide a first class service supporting 7 Upper GI surgeons, 4 HPB surgeons, 10 Lower GI surgeons, 16 Gastroenterologists, 4 Oncologists and 4 Bariatric surgeons, from UHNM and Leighton. The Upper GI and HPB MDT cover a population of 1.2 million.
The Gastrointestinal Radiology Services are based on a strong ethos of Quality Assurance, Audit, Evidence and Research. The GI Radiologists are currently recruiters for five national and international multicentre studies, with grants for 2 local trials in progress. Areas of recent service improvement include expansion of the RIG service, expansion of the cancer intervention service, delivery of a large CTC service, 3T body MRI scanning, and a static PET scanner.
The selected Fellow will have the opportunity to deeply engage in a wide range of subspecialty fields, including: Colorectal, Hepatobiliary/Pancreas, Oesophago-gastric, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gastrointestinal diseases, Oncology, Trauma Imaging and Acute Inpatient Body Imaging. The programme includes weekly training sessions covering a broad spectrum of imaging techniques such as multimodality cross-sectional imaging, MRI, CT, US, image-guided procedures and CT colonography. The successful candidate will also participate in GI-specific fluoroscopy and pelvic floor imaging. Rotations through PET can be arranged if desired. The Fellowship is designed to be flexible, allowing adjustments to match the Fellow’s individual interests and expertise. Fellows are expected to contribute to the preparation and support of multi-disciplinary team meetings, including those focused on Colorectal, IBD, CUP, Upper GI and HPB Cancer.
There are extensive academic opportunities for Fellows. Involvement in research is an expectation of the Fellowship program and up to one day per week is given as protected academic time. Candidates will receive assistance with their CESR application and portfolio development as needed.
The University Hospital of North Midlands is a standalone training scheme (a part of West Midlands School of Radiology). We currently have 38 trainees. We are also the main teaching hospital for the Keele University Undergraduate Medical School and there are close ties with the University of Keele and Staffordshire University.
In addition, there will be opportunities to provide teaching sessions to the Radiology registrars on the training scheme and a lecturer role to medical students at Keele University.
Research is a growing area of activity. A specialised research team within the department will help support research, studies and collaboration with other centres and the industry.
We are a top ranked trauma unit in the country and a Clinical Fellow job here will provide great exposure to acute body radiology imaging.
