This post has been created to provide dedicated support to the Urology Surgical service at UHNM.
You will join an enthusiastic and dedicated team, working alongside the Consultants, Specialist
Registrars, other Speciality doctors and a very experienced team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners
and Clinical Nurse Specialists, The post holder will gain a wide range of experience in all aspects of
urological work.
You will be working with Consultant-led teams and will be responsible for the management of acute
urology admissions, you will also be responsible for being part of a general outpatient’s team.
The post incorporates on call commitments, surgical training, research and audit work. The post will
be comparable to current ST posts with respect to responsibilities, audit and opportunities for
training. The post holder would have designated supervised theatre sessions. The Urology
Department at the University Hospital of North Midlands provides a broad range of specialist
urological training in areas such as specialist Oncological, Laparoscopic, Robotic Surgery and
Lithotripsy services. The training provided in this post is very flexible according to the needs of the
post holder, but in particular, it would suit trainees wishing to pursue a career in Urology and in the
process of applying for Higher urological Training

You would be assigned to a Consultant within the team, similarly to the Specialist Registrars. A
typical job plan would consist of two clinics, one flexible cystoscopy list, an all-day theatre list,
some flexible sessions and potentially a day case list. There would be ample opportunities for
research and other academic activities. There is a benign and cancer MDT and the candidate is
expected to attend and positively contribute.

This job description reflects core activities of a post at a particular time. The trust expects that all
staff will recognise this and adopt a flexible approach to work.
The post holder will be working with a team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Trust Doctors,
Specialty Trainees, Core Trainees and Foundation Trainees. Each post has a generic clinical
component in the relevant area. In addition the post holder will have an agreed experience in a subspeciality (depending on availability) including outpatient clinics, ward cover, specialist in-patient
reviews and procedures, audit and research. It is prudent to be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
The precise role within each team and the proportion of clinical time spent between the two
components would depend on previous clinical experience and qualifications of the candidate and
the sub-specialty chosen. For candidates with substantial experience in trauma and orthopaedics
and FRCS or equivalent qualifications, advanced training position can be offered depending on
assessment at interview as well as knowledge, skills and aptitude as well as previous competencies
achieved in the specialty
