Parsons is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Transportation CAD Technician with a specialization in transportation infrastructure (highway, light rail transit, and municipal) design to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in creating detailed technical drawings and plans for transportation construction projects using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. This role requires a deep understanding of civil engineering principles, highway design standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers and project managers to deliver high-quality design documents.
Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for highway construction projects using CAD software, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
- Collaborate with civil engineers, surveyors, and project managers to understand project scopes and requirements.
- Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from civil engineers to ensure that they conform to design concepts.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior CAD technicians within the team.
- Ensure all designs meet legal guidelines, environmental directives, and health & safety requirements.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines without compromising on quality.
- Stay updated with new CAD technologies; recommend upgrades as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Diploma of Technology in Civil and Structural Engineering (or related field) and 10+ years of related work experience.
- Registered as Applied Science Technologist (AScT), or eligible for registration, with a Canadian provincial regulatory body.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles related to highway construction including grading, drainage systems, barriers etc.
- Familiarity with Canadian, provincial, and municipal standards and regulations is highly desirable.
- Experience working on BC Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, or Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation projects is an asset.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk Construction Cloud software.
- Proficient in Bentley Systems OpenRoads Designer and ProjectWise software.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills.
