Job Description Senior Transportation Technologist
The City of Port Moody has regular, full-time opportunity available for a motivated and experienced Senior Transportation Technologist to support the development and maintenance of a well-balanced transportation network.
The Senior Transportation Technologist provides supervision, analysis, technical and administrative work in the management of the City’s traffic operations program. This position works between office and site environment, liaising with City crews, contractors, consultants, developers, third party utility providers, as well as the public.
The Senior Transportation Technologist is responsible for oversight of the City’s traffic signal, traffic control, and streelight systems, and participates in and supports the planning and implementation of master plans, completes transportation review of development applications, and coordinates the updating of procedures, policies, and bylaws, including writing and presenting reports. This position is also responsible for developing and preparing contracts and administering contracted services of various scales for the coordination, upgrade, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic and parking control systems and transportation planning initiatives.
This position also guides the collection, review, and analysis of traffic and transportation data to provide technical advice, guidance, interpretations, explanations and comments regarding impacts to the City’s transportation systems and network.

Basic Qualifications

  • Diploma of Technology in Civil & Structural Engineering
  • Registration as an AScT (Civil) with ASTTBC
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience including oversight and coordination of traffic control systems and multimodal infrastructure; preparation and review of transportation design specifications and standards; investigation and response to traffic problems and complaints; and analysis of traffic related studies, modelling and programs
  • Strong knowledge of municipal engineering operations and working knowledge of applicable (and traffic related) legislation, regulations, requirements, bylaws and policies
  • Proven experience with project management, including administering contracts, supervising construction, and managing budgets including related to operation and maintenance of traffic operation program
  • Ability to prepare, read and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents and experience interpreting and providing recommendations on professional reports, review of designs, City bylaws, and technical specifications, including transportation design specifications and standards
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including preparing public reports and participating in public consultation efforts
  • Computer skills, including CAD, GIS mapping systems, transportation system modelling software, and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Certification specific to the job duties, such as the International Municipal Signal Association certification, MMCD Contract Administrator certification, or other related certifications would be an asset
