Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Senior Uncertainty Quantification Engineer - Aerodynamics Stability & Control to report to the Stability and Control, (S&C) Manager, working in the Everett, Washington office.
As a Senior Uncertainty Quantification Engineer, you will conduct analyses to support both airplanes in development and in service. You will gain a comprehensive airplane-level perspective of vehicle requirements, aerodynamic performance, and human factors. As a flight dynamics and handling qualities expert, you will influence airplane development, verify capabilities during flight test programs, and support airline customers operating our airplanes.
You will have opportunities to interface directly with various disciplines and the Flight Test pilot community, broadening your network and sphere of influence. You will utilize a variety of computational tools and techniques to solve complex problems with competing requirements. You will develop and use high-fidelity steady-state and dynamic simulation models to analyze extreme flight conditions. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, performance, and efficiency of current and future Boeing Commercial Airplane products.
Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including, Senior (Level 4) and (Level 5).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 7+ years of engineering experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • 12 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

TYPICAL EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Senior (Level 5): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

SUMMARY PAY RANGE (LEVEL 5): $147,900 - $200,100

Responsibilities:

  • Develop data reduction techniques to assess uncertainty from a wide variety of sources
  • Develop tools to both quantify and propagate uncertainty in flight simulation analysis
  • Create implementation strategy for utilizing flight simulation that incorporates uncertainty into requirement analysis
  • Assists the Development and utilize advanced 6 Degree of Freedom (DOF) aerodynamic flight models
  • Collects and analyzes data from various aerodynamics testing methods (e.g. flight test, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), wind tunnel)
  • Develops and verifies airplane-level flight requirements Develop control surface and actuation size requirements
  • Develops documentation to capture design decisions, analysis results, and process improvement
  • Develops new tools and techniques for improving analytical efficiency
  • Coordinates with a variety of internal and external customers
  • Responds to a variety of technical challenges
