Description:

Reporting to the Manger, Care Sector, This position is responsible for underwriting the relevant line of business within agreed business plan parameters, and in line with underwriting authority, in order to achieve agreed combined ratio targets, while supporting the development and maintenance of a portfolio of desirable business through marketing , analysis, sales, service and underwriting.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for an individual to underwrite in our Care sector.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Underwriting and servicing a growing book of business In the Care, allied healthcare and non profit sector.
  • Including risk selection, coverage negotiation and pricing adequacy on new and renewable business, all in accordance with designated underwriting authorities and sector specific underwriting guidelines.
  • Reviewing and processing changes on existing accounts to maintain compliance with policy conditions and company underwriting philosophy.
  • Identifying, analyzing and developing sources of new business; assists in developing marketing strategies for new or improved products.
  • Partnering with peers in other product lines to leverage multi-line opportunities driven by new business and existing book.
  • Establishing and maintaining superior business and service oriented partnerships with Markel’s broker clients through; regular and frequent attendance at client broker events and industry conferences.
  • May be mentoring junior team members in providing advice and guidance on technical underwriting matters as well as marketing and servicing techniques and approaches.
  • Facilitating utilization of policy holder added value proposition for new and existing clients.
  • Maintaining market intelligence, business insurance trends and industry knowledge.

Our must haves:

  • 4-7+ years’ underwriting experience
  • Experience in professional liability preferable.
  • University degree; CIP or FCIP designation.
  • Expertise and depth in policy wordings, forms and applicable coverages.
  • Have a strong business development focus with key skills in communication, marketing, sales, product knowledge and strategic thinking.
  • Superior relationship management skills proven through established broker relationships and demonstrated track record of generating new business premium.
  • Strong administrative skills and highly detail oriented.Excellent presentation skills

    • comfortable speaking in front of small and large groups.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member.
    • Ability to deliver results even when working to meet tight deadlines.
    • Strong business acumen and capable of representing the organization externally.
    • Bilingualism (French/English) an asset.
