The opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Liability Underwriter to join the NSW/ACT Region of our Commercial Underwriting Division.
Your new role
As a Senior Underwriter you will provide underwriting and technical support to enable the Underwriting Team to develop a profitable portfolio and deliver an excellent level of service to our customers.
You will work collaboratively with your team to ensure profitable growth by performing quotes, renewals, policy maintenance, problem solving and relationship building with intermediaries.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Underwrite new business and renewals providing quotes in a timely and professional manner in line with guidelines and delegated authority
  • Ensure timely and accurate underwriting admin including file management, completion of raters & pricing tools, closings, outstanding cash items, mid-term endorsements
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Regional Product Strategies
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of best practice standards
  • Referral management and provision of underwriting advice, referral coaching and technical support teams learning and development
  • Monitor assigned portfolio results, identify trends and opportunities for corrective action as necessary
  • Maintain strong knowledge of assigned products and application to achieve underwriting results and growth in accordance with plan / budget
  • Establish and develop good working relationships with all intermediaries for the purpose of developing, then monitoring compliant and profitable business
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and specialised advice to team members on a formal or informal basis
  • Review and provide risk improvement recommendations arising from risk surveys
  • Engage with intermediaries and customers via visitations as required

About you:

You are an experienced Senior Underwriter, who prides themselves on the relationships they build. We are looking for open-minded and proactive individuals who respond well to change and have

  • Extensive experience with the Liability product
  • Solid technical knowledge at high accreditation levels
  • Broad insurance industry knowledge, along with strong, established Intermediary relationships
  • Demonstrated adherence to Underwriting standards, policies, and procedure and knowledge to manage an effective outcome to complex risks and communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Ability to demonstrate successful growth of profitable business, through both new business and renewal growth
  • Knowledge on Policy Coverage and the ability, market pricing, focus, trends, and targets
  • High level of communication, problem solving and negotiation and analytical skills
