We are seeking an energetic self-starter for a unique opportunity to assume the role of Counsel on the Investment Services Legal team supporting each of our Credit Services and Trade Finance businesses. Credit Services is the traditional lending business of BNY Mellon and consists of Institutional Lending, Syndications, Real Estate & Mortgage Banking and Credit Management. Credit Services focuses on positioning the bank’s balance sheet to generate assets and net interest income and to broadly support strategic client relationships while taking an appropriate level of risk. Trade Finance is part of BNY Mellon’s Treasury Services business which has an integral role within BNY Mellon’s Global Market Infrastructure business, combining leading treasury solutions with industry expertise to help organizations optimize cash flows, maintain liquidity, manage risk and move money across the globe.
This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA – working on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities:

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:

Advise on all aspects of commercial lending and trade finance transactions, products, programs, platforms, processes and related matters
Structure, document, negotiate and close commercial lending transactions
Negotiate and draft transactional agreements for BNY Mellon’s Trade Finance business– including those related to supply chain finance, receivables finance, risk distribution, white label outsourcing, and a broad range of traditional trade-finance products such as letters of credit, trade loans and the discounting of instruments and documents
Manage escalations from various business stakeholders internally and outside counsel on transactional and documentation issues
Assist on special, regional and global projects as required for the Credit Services and Trade Finance businesses
At times interact with senior management and relevant business stakeholders
Partner with control functions serving in an advisory or oversight capacity, such as Risk, Audit and Compliance
Manage outside counsel and advise on business, regulatory and legal developments
Collaborate with the Treasury Services Payments and Liquidity Services Legal Team, as needed
Negotiate servicing outsourcing contracts

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, WE’RE SEEKING THE FOLLOWING:

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and a member of the Pennsylvania or New York Bar.
5 years’ minimum of total work experience as a qualified attorney, preferably representing major financial institutions in lending transactions.
Commercial real estate, fund finance or supply chain finance a plus
Cross-border transactional experience a plus
Ability to handle a diverse and demanding workload
Excellent negotiation, analytical, problem-solving, drafting and communications skills
Ability to function independently, but also to function as part of effective teams
