Service Victoria is the one place to go for government services. It’s our job to make things easy. Our customers give our services an overall 96% satisfaction score, and our app was the most downloaded in Australia for 2021.
The Service Victoria culture is dynamic and fast-paced, we’re not what you’d expect from a government department. We work flexibly and remotely, using our workspaces in Footscray and Ballarat for onsite collaboration. We have a mature digital services platform of contemporary cloud-based infrastructure, technical architecture and scalable and reusable common capabilities, with real-time integration into agency legacy systems. We use a range of market-leading technology, such as AWS, Salesforce, Node.js, React, MuleSoft, Sitecore (.NET), HTML/CSS/JavaScript, and Java. From a Salesforce point of view, we use areas such as Service Cloud, Experience Cloud, Omni Studio and Public Sector Solution.
Service Victoria is an Administrative Office attached to the Department of Government Services (DGS). DGS was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone’s experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government.
Service Victoria and DGS are bringing important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses.
We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

Engineering/Team Zulu
As Service Victoria grows, so does the need to continue to progressively add new transactions and new functionality to existing capabilities, including digital licences, digital proof of identity, online accounts, and payments with a particular focus on our mobile app.
The Engineering department is focused on building the future organisation and the appropriate IT organisation structure and capability that will allow the implemented solutions to be maintained, supported, and expanded upon on an on-going basis. You will also have a chance to work on continuously improving our service offering by bringing in structured improvements based on data analytics and insights.
Within the Engineering space, Team Zulu is tasked with the maintenance and enhancement of legacy transactions, specifically the Fishing and Ambulance services powered by Sitecore and MuleSoft. Additionally, we manage the Miners transaction system developed with React and MuleSoft. Our team offers around-the-clock support to address any critical or urgent issues within the organization. Our technical expertise spans a broad range of technologies and tools, including Sitecore, MuleSoft, PostgreSQL, React, AWS, Datadog.
About the role
This position is designed to bolster our organization’s service and delivery capabilities through expert use of Sitecore. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Sitecore and .NET, a thorough understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and proficiency in developing, maintaining, and deploying environments and pipelines.

Key accountabilities

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of our systems and infrastructure, utilising this expertise to optimise performance and stability across various platforms.
  • Drive the development of advanced software features, applying in-depth knowledge of system architecture to create robust solutions and address high-complexity issues.
  • Provide estimations/guidance/technical analysis to business analysts and product owners (other stakeholders), helping them understand the cost and complexity trade-offs between requirements, and enabling more strategic decision-making.
  • Proactively identify and assess opportunities to simplify the code base, making it more accessible and manageable, thereby enhancing overall team efficiency and code maintainability.
  • Engage regularly in guild meetings to share knowledge and insights, while ensuring the delivery of high-quality code that adheres to security standards and is validated through comprehensive automated testing.
  • Actively contributes to the collective technical proficiency of the organization by offering insights and expertise, aiding all team members in enhancing their skills. Facilitate knowledge sharing by documenting system architectures, processes, and codebases.
  • Assists in cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and introspection, while also acting as a mentor to junior developers, encouraging their growth and the team’s/organisation’s collective advancement.
  • Embrace a proactive ‘fix-it’ ethos, proactively seeking out opportunities for system enhancements, and advocating for automation to eliminate repetitive tasks to bolster system efficiency.
  • Participates in a 24/7on-call roster for responding to incidents out of hours (our teams own the software they build and are responsible for supporting its operability)

Key selection criteria

  • At least 3 years of Sitecore experience (or at least 2 years, with significant experience in other CMSes or .NET) with demonstrated experience in a Lead/Senior developer position.
  • Several years of experience in full-stack development using .NET, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. Responsive Web design experience for desktop and mobile.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs/cloud message APIs, integration with (external) APIs, testing frameworks (preferably frontend), usage of push notifications.
  • A self-starter with a curious nature who thrives on independent work and minimal oversight yet collaborates effectively with the team wherever appropriate.
  • Management of a Linux/Windows hosted environments in the cloud (AWS).

Experience and qualifications

Mandatory requirements

  • Hands on experience with Sitecore (enterprise-level CMS tool)

Desirable

  • Tertiary qualifications, ideally in software engineering
  • Familiarity with OAUTH/OIDC
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, improving, and developing SQL database tables.
  • Experience with REACT and NodeJS
