The business area of Industrial Service focuses and offers service solutions and maintenance for all crane brands, for port equipment and machine tools; this includes the repair, maintenance and service of our customers’ lifting equipment, service inspection contracts, refurbishment and modernisation projects, installation, testing and certification of overhead cranes and hoists. We are the original service provider for both Konecranes and Demag equipment.
Right now, we are recruiting a Service Technician to join our team based in Port Elizabeth, on a full time, permanent basis. Working in our Industrial Service business division, this role will be responsible to execute and support the inspections, repairs, modernizations and installation on cranes and related components and equipment; except for those requiring compliance inspection by an accredited person.

As our Service Technician, key roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out fault finding to ensure that cranes are thoroughly assessed in accordance with stipulated procedures, isolate the problem and take or recommend action to minimise downtime.
  • Perform thorough inspections, breakdowns, and repairs in a timely manner and in accordance with the service contracts or other requirements
  • Ensure that faults and problems requiring repairs are accurately identified during the inspection.
  • Make recommendations on maintenance required and/or modifications to improve the cranes, and equipment’s.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate inspection report in accordance with company report templates ensure that it is signed by customers and other responsible person.
  • Ensure that work areas are properly assessed, and work is performed in accordance with accepted safety procedures.
  • Gathers customer input on matters ranging from product design, operation, maintenance, warranty performance, and safety.
  • Adhere to safety procedures both on the company and customer premises wherever work is conducted.
  • Compile and maintain safety files as required as per regulatory, compliance and customer requirements
  • Maintain general housekeeping.
  • Ensure accurate and timely administration of relevant documentation such as service or inspection reports, timesheets, and orders.
  • Communicates information on equipment problems or potential enhancements timeously to the relevant persons.
  • May provide guidance to assistant service technician on assigned tasks/ongoing responsibilities requiring collaboration.

Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have the following skills and attributes:

QUALIFICATION/EDUCATION:

  • Trade qualification (NQF level 3) in mechanical or electrical or an equivalent technical qualification
  • Registered LMI (An Advantage)
  • Valid driver’s license

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • 3 – 5 years’ work experience in similar environment
  • Read blueprints, schematics and understand technical data
  • Use hand tools and trade type tools
  • Experience on overhead cranes
  • Experience on Invertor Drives and PLC’s
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, elevated areas and at heights
  • Must be able to travel locally and outside SA for operational requirements
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Thinks in terms of profit and loss
