DESCRIPTION:
Course description: This course critically examines the concept of urban sustainability in theory and application. Case studies of ongoing urban sustainability programs in the developed and developing world help students assess the successes and failures of these programs. The course also examines the current state of research and implementation efforts toward urban sustainability. Toronto’s urban sustainability and sustainable needs will be investigated through the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) during the course (previous experience with GIS is not required).

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $9457.90; Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9930.79;
Sessional Lecturer II - $10121.77; Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10326.62;
Sessional Lecturer III - $10362.76; Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10570.02
These salaries are inclusive of vacation pay. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD or masters with equivalent professional and/or academic experience required. Background in teaching urban design and/or sustainability issues. Knowledgeable in GIS tools including QGIS or ArcGIS.
Preferred Qualifications: Relevant academic or professional publications, and previous experience teaching a similar graduate or undergraduate course, are highly desirable.
Duties of course instructor: teaching the course, and co-delivering the labs with TA; developing and revising course curriculum; delivering weekly lectures or arranging guest lecturers; arranging required readings; holding office hours; evaluating student performance, and supervising TA.
