Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Newcomer Program Coordinator, the Settlement Worker is responsible to provide one-on-one support services, referrals, interpretation, and group session facilitation and support new program development. This role will support the needs of newcomers and their integration into their new community. The position will be working alongside the Community & Family team.

Necessary Skills/Qualifications and Other Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience or education in social services, newcomer and settlement services, and/or community development
  • Experience in offering case management on a one-to-one basis to newcomers (including assessments, information & referral)
  • Strong ability to work with and relate to diverse groups and oral/written proficiency in any one or more of the following languages an asset: French, Cantonese or Mandarin, Arabic
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in program development and implementation.
  • Experience with conflict resolution and problem-solving.
  • Computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
  • Valid Driver’s License with access to a car an asset
  • Ability to comply with polices regarding confidentiality, privacy and record keeping
  • Familiarity with the Malvern neighborhood or surrounding neighborhoods is an asset.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Screen if over 18 years of age

Responsibilities:

  • Support overall transition, resilience and integration of newcomer youth, adults and families through programs and service provision including developing individualized settlement plans and one to one case management.
  • Facilitate orientation to Ontario workshops series, conversational English classes, and drop-in skill-building & community connections programs with youth, adults and families.
  • Working within a team to develop culturally appropriate programs and services that meets the needs of newcomer and refugee families, women and youth across North-East Scarborough · Ensure programming reaches participation targets as set by supervisor and external funding agreements.
  • Implement group-based programming at the Centre and at various satellite locations across the community.
  • Conduct ongoing program and participant satisfaction surveys as well as other evaluation tools.
  • Develop and implement programs as needed using online platforms to engage Newcomers
  • Collaborate and plan with other members of the Newcomer team to ensure all newcomer client needs are met.
  • Report regularly on achievement of deliverables with respect to funded settlement activities through data entry on agency and funder portals and databases.
  • Develop and implement outreach activities to attract newcomers and their families to MFRC and the Settlement programs. Participate in developing the outreach strategy within the Newcomer and Community & Family Teams.
  • Works within broader settlement and community teams to identify and develop potential partnerships to strengthen the programs we offer, as well as internal and external collaboration in the community.
