Responsibilities:

WHAT WILL YOU DO AS A SHEQ SPECIALIST (PROCESS SAFETY, FIRE PROTECTION & EMERGENCY RESPONSE)?

The SHEQ Specialist (Process Safety, Fire Protection & Emergency Response) will be required to ensure the management of Process Safety (PSM) and Fire Protection (FP) systems and processes by support the organization in ensuring that the relevant PS activities/actions are conducted sufficiently to prevent Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC), satisfy compliance with the requirements of the local, legislative and group SHEQ requirements and in the event of a loss of containment we have sufficient FP and Emergency Response (ERP) capability to mitigate such.
Key resource support to the Manager: SHEQ & Sustainability in the development and maintenance of an effective PSM, FP and ER Program which forms part of the National Occupational Health, Safety & Security Program, developing related targets and maintaining a positive safety performance in line with legal and Vopak standards.

YOUR CORE RESPONSIBILITIES ARE:

  • Function as the Technical Authority/Specialist at various Committees & forums.
  • Emergency Pre-Incident Planning activities for internal & external stakeholders as well as local authorities and Fire Brigades.
  • Emergency Coordinator & Fire Instructor designated to ensure response teams are able to deal with eventualities.
  • Develop, Reviewing and updating Procedures and documents for high risk activities emanating from risk assessments
  • Ensured a robust assurance program inclusive of audits, field verification activities and various interventions are in place to ascertain suitability, validity and strength of various controls and barriers in place for the PSM and FP programs.
  • Support in the identification of Occupational Health, Safety and Security improvements based on the strategic objectives of the organization, changes in legislation, trending of SHE performance, industry best practices, customer requirements and general improvements.
  • Provide support and specialist SHE input in meetings/ projects - Safety Committee, Department interface, Contractor meetings, and Customer meetings and with relevant authorities. Support the Safety Representatives in achieving their mandate through training, reporting and monitoring the close out of actions.
  • Management of the ERP, update, training and testing of the plan as required by law/Vopak
  • Management of incidents, and perform incident investigations when required and monitor the close out of corrective actions and provide trends to support continuous improvement.
  • Support the organization on the development of a positive safety culture (staff and contractors) by raising SHE awareness, empowering and coaching staff in SHE matters within their job functions
  • Facilitating audits to verify compliance level of contractors (Acts, codes, VSA standards)
