Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Shift Leader Mechanic will assist the Chief Mechanic in the management of the vessel seismic source, towing and handling systems, seismic related hydraulic systems and all related peripheral equipment is carried out according to the standards established by the PXGEO and those required of the industry and / or our customers. The Shift Leader Mechanic will act as the deputy for the Chief Mechanic when required to do so.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Minimum two-year (2) college education in Mechanical Engineering including:

  • Welding
  • Automotive
  • Hydraulics

Or equivalent vocational or military background, including:

  • Engineer
  • Mechanic
  • Fitter
  • Motorman
  • Artificer

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Chief Mechanic in establishment of a “safety culture” and taking corrective action as situations may require.
  • Managing the assigned shift onboard as directed by the Chief Mechanic to ensure the Mechanical department operations are carried out according to “Our Commitments” and PXGEO procedures.
  • Assisting the Chief Mechanic to ensure the high professional standards of all department related client deliverables are maintained.
  • Communicating with on board client representative in related matters during the assigned shift and at the direction of the Chief Mechanic.
  • Systematically working to reduce and minimize downtime.
  • Overseeing the department planned maintenance routines are followed during the assigned shift.
  • Actively and systematically seeking and suggesting improvements and innovations.
  • Supporting the “Explore Green” initiatives and ensuring that all proposed Mechanical department tasks carried out during the assigned shift take into consideration their environmental impact and any residual impacts are mitigated accordingly.
  • Ensuring that all waste generated from the Mechanical department work practices is recorded, minimized, reduced, re-used, or recycled.
  • Ensuring that when evaluating materials for department use a green alternative has been considered and if the green alternative is found to be an adequate replacement, suggesting its purchase.
  • Assisting in the training and mentoring of junior department personnel.
  • Providing feedback to the Chief Mechanic for personnel appraisals of the employees assigned to your respective shift.
  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of Mechanical department supplies and inspecting the delivery for accuracy and quality.
  • Maintaining the Mechanics logs and other necessary reports and forms.
  • Assisting in maintaining and updating the PMS, procedures, checklists, and other internal or external publications relative to the Mechanical department.
  • Following the onboard chain of command structure and duties assigned under the Station Bill.
  • Providing information for handover reports in a timely manner as directed, prior to crew change.
  • Commitment to PXGEO’s Explore Green agenda.
