Description:

Reporting to the Warehouse and Plant Manager, the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for leading and developing a high performance team of unionized workers to optimize safety, product quality and productivity to achieve on-time delivery and total customer satisfaction.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-secondary education in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
Supervisory or operations leadership experience within the Corrugated packaging sector is highly desired ; experience in a high volume warehousing, distribution or manufacturing environment is a prerequisite
Proficient with MS Office applications and systems
Strong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills are essential
Ability to organize and prioritize essential tasks to achieve results
Able to work rotating shifts as per operational requirements

Responsibilities:

Leading and supervising a team of unionized workers to optimize safety, quality and productivity in the Corrugated Shipping Operations
Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with OHS standards; that workers are protected from any hazards and such hazards are identified and controlled; and workers use the prescribed safety equipment
Maintain and enforce quality standards and good housekeeping protocols; support Shipping Operations in customer and third party audits
Develop plans to ensure annual KPI objectives are achieved for safety, product quality, productivity and on-time delivery while supporting continuous improvement initiatives
Monitor, track and verify inventory levels, following FIFO requirements and communicating with internal departments
Coach and performance manage workers with emphasis on frequent communication, feedback and promoting a high level of teamwork and engagement
Coordinate load and delivery planning activities with the Shipping Coordinator to ensure on-time customer delivery ; communicate and resolve any carrier issues as necessary
Foster strong relationships and communication with internal and external departments and stakeholders
Coach and enforce specific safety rules and behaviors ensuring timely and accurate reporting of accidents / incidents and proactive prevention measures
Provide daily feedback to workers on performance and conduct performance reviews with direct reports
Facilitate crew meetings to ensure current safety, quality, productivity and on-time delivery and customer issues are considered and resolved
Administration and application of the collective agreement and Company policies/procedures
Back-up for the position is the Warehouse and Shipping Manager
Other duties as assigned
