Description:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with appropriate teaching/assessing qualification with a minimum of four years post registration experience. Evidence of post registration qualification/equivalent. Enhanced IT skills. Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills.
Demonstrate professional leadership and act as a resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge. Demonstrate evidence of budgetary awareness. Demonstrate evidence of communication/problem solving skills within a team, including organisational and planning skills. Expert knowledge of surgical nursing required to provide clinical advice and support staff, patients and other disciplines.
Expert knowledge of equipment required in order to support the patient safely through the department. To participate in own and teams personal and professional development. Ensuring progression through Individual Performance Development Review and PREP guidelines. To assist Senior Sister with appraisals.
Demonstrate understanding of research based practice, and participate as required in audit. KEY RESULT AREAS The ability to co-ordinate and lead team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care with the multi disciplinary team. To do this you should be able to work within all areas of the unit from admissions to discharge. To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.
Ability to disseminate contentious and delicate information appropriately. To lead and deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate. To assist in the management and provision of an agreed standard of service, meeting organisational and national targets. To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medication Guidelines.
To deliver and receive information which may cause emotional distress to all parties. Participate in mentorship and educational programmes for students and other members of the team. To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct. To assist and support the Line Manager in recruitment, retention and performance related issues, including being regularly responsible for the supervision and mentorship for unqualified, qualified staff and students.
Support the Line Manager for the clinical area in the management of budgetary control and resource management including duty rotas and skill mix requirements. To assist and support the Line Manager with Clinical Governance, Health and Safety and Risk Management within Trust policy. In accordance with the data protection act assist ward manager in ensuring own and staffs ability to input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based systems and maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records. To actively support and assist Line Manager with patient/public involvement ensuring it is integrated into service delivery
