KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

  • Management and responsibility for the maintanence and engineering function and Engineering team across the UK business, supporting the team in the day to day reliability and drive to excellence, reducing lost time by ensureing critical areas are developed, management of CMMS systems with a core measure being completion of PPMs
  • Create and implement best practice maintenance and engineering, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational and business performance. Drive the weekly attainment, planning and organising of PPM activities to reduce operational losses, impacts and unplanned downtime
  • Ensure that engineering processes and practices are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market
  • Management and review of contract OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
  • Take ownership of the engineering and maintenance policies, guidelines and any associated documents ensuring that they are fit for purpose and support operational business needs and schedules are established and maintained for equipment and machinery to ensure that risks to the business are mitiaged
  • Providing technical engineering support to the business, and onsite teams. Ability to proactively work through root cause idenifcation and assess failure versus effectiveness
  • Working in close partnership with Procurement to ensure compliance with all working practices and company policy including tender processes, anit bribery and coruption, supplier set up and all necessary legal, regulatory and ethical audit checks are completed
  • Support cross functional projects and activity as required to deliver project execution successfully
  • Ensure any new equipment or engineering activity is supported with appropriate qualification documentation and that this is appropriately stored. Ensure up to date drawings are maintained in line with company and legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate with operations to ensure manufacturability of product while maintaining quality, safety and environmental standards and achieving cost targets in a timely fashion
  • In conjunction with Procurement, Plant Manager and Site Services proactively manage the contractor process to ensure all external contracts are regularly reviewed to ensure best value, fit for purpose, compliance and business need
  • Report on Engineering activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, establishing proactive communication regarding any impacts (positive and negative) to the team, the business or projects from a functional working and maintenance perspective
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
  • Responsible for developing the appropriate multi-disciplinary resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables
  • Provide management and coaching to the team, ensuring they are trained to enable them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and succeed in their roles
  • Actively champion Health and Safety to ensure a safe working environment

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Critical

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline or NVQ Level 7 qualification
  • Demonstrable experience of managing an engineering team with a proven track record in delivering effective engineering policies, processes and systems
  • Project management and supplier experience
  • Experience of working with contractors
  • Experience of operating and influencing at a senior level
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of production processes equipment
  • First class communication skills both verbal and written
  • Clearly evidenced use of CI and Lean principles to implement improvements
  • Proven experience of effective and proactive engineering maintenance management

Responsibilities:

Overall responsibility and accountability for the maintenance and engineering function at the UK facility.
The Maintenance and Engineering Manager will implement engineering and maintenance strategy and plans alongside supporting the operational goals to exceed customer expectations for product production, quality, cost and delivery. Maximising efficiency, optimising and driving engineering excellence.
Working closely with internal and external key stakeholders, operations and warehouse, machinery and technology contractors, Site Services, Procurement and FSQA. Responsible for all areas of the maintenance and engineering function and quality of service delivery, striving for best in class engineering and business practices. Managing the engineering team, onsite contractors and supporting capital projects across the business.
Provide clear management and daily leadership, inspiring and motivating associates to achieve excellence and support their development within the business. Drive Key Performance Indicators across all areas of the Engineering team to ensure that all work and maintenance plans are delivered on time and to the highest quality standards.
Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures and issues are prioritised and facilitated supporting and working closely with Site Services. Embed the philosophy of TPM Business strategy and Continuous Improvement across all engineering and maintenance related areas of the business
To support audits, ensure products manufactured are safe, legal and comply to customers quality standards whilst meeting business cost parameters.
