Description:
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent; post secondary education in a technical or a business management program an asset.
CERTIFICATE(S) / LICENSE(S): Incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license.
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous trade or technical experience, ideally in a northern/remote environment
- Minimum 2 years’ supervisory/lead hand experience in a technical/trades service environment
- Previous experience with the NWS contract is an asset
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Must be familiar with the scope of work to be performed at an LRR
- Knowledge of work/project management practices relating to the operation and maintenance of remote sites.
- Proven leadership and facilitation skills
- Strong organizational, communications, computer, problem solving and analytical skills
- Adaptability and ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-culturally
COMPETENCIES / SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong communications, decision-making and documentation skills to exercise judgment/due diligence in addressing/reporting issues that arise from time to time, given consideration to the isolation/remoteness and complexity of logistical requirements.
- Strong team building and mentoring skills
- Autonomy, initiative and ability to balance priorities
- Ability to speak Inuktitut an asset
Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that all personnel (regardless of past employment) are given all necessary site briefings
- Ensure that the NWS Emergency Response Plan is reviewed by the site personnel
- Appoint staff for duties such as safety representatives and ensure all firearms are handled according to Nasittuq’s policies
- Conduct an initial site safety meeting and daily “toolbox” safety meeting for all staff on site
- Ensure that all staff are familiar with and adhere to all Nasittuq policies including the Fit for Work and Alcohol and Prohibited Drugs policy
- Be familiar and ensure compliance of all personnel on site (including contractors and visitors) to all safety plans, including plans specific to project activities, work permits and ‘stop work’ orders
- Ensure that the overall fire protection program for the site is in accordance the NWS Fire Services Plan, appointing individuals to form a fire brigade and posting the names
- Ensure that all fire alarms are operating properly and reset at the control panel if required
- Ensure that the NWS Project Security Plan, is reviewed by the site personnel and that the procedures are followed
- Liaise daily with project coordinators and ensuring personnel and resources are assigned in accordance with Nasittuq priorities and report any discrepancies
- Schedule, prioritize work and ensuring that no overtime is worked unless pre-approved by the necessary authorities
- Record events in the daily logbook
- Submit a daily report to the LSS Manager, via e-mail, outlining accomplishments, challenges and basic activities that took place each day, and a summary of upcoming tasks and events planned
- Ensure all steps on the closure checklist are completed
- Ensure the accurate recording of employee’s time and justifications for overtime for the LSS Manager’s approval
- Conduct a site walk around to inspect buildings and structures at the beginning and the end of the ramp-up to look for damage or problems. Any observations are to be reported to the LSS Manager and entered in the site log
- Provide the LSS Manager with an “Issue Tally Sheet” on a weekly basis listing all of the material issued from the warehouse to include MSE parts
- Represents Nasittuq in a professional manner at all times to third parties and the client
- Perform other duties as assigned
Scope of responsibilities include:
- Supervision/oversight of the day-to-day operations consisting of both trades and non-trades positions
- The safety of all personnel on site, including visitors and contractors
- Ensure compliance with all Nasittuq policies
- Maintaining a safe work environment; inspecting areas for potential hazards and rectifying and/or reporting to manager
- The judicious allocation of site resources to support overall Nasittuq priorities of performing site maintenance tasks as well as responding to any corrective maintenance and,
- Maintaining site cleanliness and ensuring the site is returned to normal LSS operation in a fully satisfactory state at the end of the period of activit
