The Opporunity
The Skills Launch Adult Project is a continued initiative designed to help a defined cohort of newcomers find meaningful employment opportunities in the Saint John, Fredericton, and Moncton regions, as well as in the rural communities of New Brunswick. This position is responsible for the coordination and implementation of this project and will provide workshops and work placements for newcomers, as well as appropriate follow-up.
During the course of the contract, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for project and event planning, coordination, and instruction of pre-employment skills to project participants. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a young and growing organization that is making a meaningful change for immigrants in New Brunswick.
The Project Coordinator will be expected to work closely with NBMC and other immigrant settlement agencies (ISAs) staff as required and needed. The nature and scope of this position is such that a close relationship must be maintained with the Director of Employment Initiatives and Project Lead at the New Brunswick Multicultural Council, as well as with other project team members.
Responsibilities
Local coordination of all training and participant workshops with appropriate partners (PETL, NBCC, St. John Ambulance, etc.)
Preparation of project materials
Promotion of the project, including recruitment, screening, and selection of participants
Participant case management, including problem solving, tracking, and recording progress and results
Instructing participants on pre-employment skills including: resume building, job search skills, interview skills, workplace health and safety, etc.
Instructing participants on Canadian workplace culture
Assisting with the improvement of English/ or French language skills through reading, writing and numeracy
Facilitate and work closely with WorkingNB in a CASE Conference model
Work closely with WorkingNB in securing and monitoring work placements for participants
Coordinate details and logistics for meetings, which may include note taking and follow up
Work within the project budget and ensure it is adhered to
Assist with securing sponsorships, including drafting and managing correspondence with potential sponsors
Coordination with employer organizations/sector councils and employers
Preparing monthly reports and quarterly roll-up reports for NBMC
Preparing the end-of-project report and performing project closeout activities
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum two years of relevant experience (project coordination/management)
Degree in Social Sciences, Business/Administration, Hospitality, and recognized Communications/Public Relations-related studies
Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English required; French an asset
Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and attention to detail are necessary
Can demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills
Can work independently and as part of a team
Flexible, outgoing, and prepared to take on new tasks
Experience with Microsoft Office
Bilingualism is considered a strong asset
