What role will you play in helping us write the next chapter?
As the leader of Business Intelligence and Insights, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the overall trends derived from data analysis across various domains including customer behavior, financials, marketing effectiveness, and competitive intelligence. You will work closely with SmartPak’s Executive Leadership and lead a small but mighty team of data engineers and business intelligence analysts.
As a privately held and PE backed company with an aggressive growth agenda, SmartPak requires a leader who possesses strong visionary leadership competency, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven track record of leveraging data to drive strategic business decisions. This is a highly visible role serving as the conduit between strategy, execution and fueling growth. Your contributions will directly impact the future direction of SmartPak and enable the transformation of the business in both equine health and wellness categories.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Leadership: Be a key player in leadership discussions, create value by measuring and interpreting business performance to predict future outcomes; providing actionable recommendations to capitalize on those insights. Lead with the ability to inspire and guide while fostering an environment of performance, ownership of results, and a commitment to win. Serve as a mentor and leader and provide clear direction and support on a wide variety of project deliverables. Be a role model of SmartPak values and create an environment of belonging and psychological safety where everyone is invited to share their ideas and work as ONE-team to deliver on the priorities. A hands-on leader with the ability to attract, develop and retain a highly motivated and talented team.
  • Innovation and transformation: Lead the design and implementation of cutting-edge data solutions that enhances SmartPak’s competitive edge and customer experience. Responsible for transforming business intelligence systems, by gathering requirements, designing solutions, and implementing new reporting capabilities that inform the leadership of emerging trends and areas of opportunities.
  • Business intelligence and insights leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that is aligned with SmartPak’s mission and goals. The implementation must enable aggregation and analysis of data from multiple sources to predict performance and assist the leaders to derive actionable insights and trends from complex datasets. Responsible for reporting on key business metrics and preparing the CEO and CFO for the monthly, quarterly, and annual operating reviews and board meetings.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Working closely with C-suite leaders and other key internal stakeholders, you will be the subject matter expert on SmartPak’s key drivers, provide valuable insights to continuously expand the use of data analytics.
  • Institutionalize self-service Business Intelligence and reporting capabilities: Augment business intelligence capabilities across the organization to energize the teams and fuel the culture of ownership and performance.
  • Competitive trends, governance, and best practices: Stay abreast of industry trends including Gen AI, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to drive continuous growth and avert controllable pitfalls. Establish and enforce intelligence principles, standards, and best practices, ensuring alignment with industry standards and compliance requirements. Establish and maintain robust data governance policies to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to ensure data solutions and collections across the company are effectively designed and integrated to predict unbiased forecasts with a low margin of error.

Qualifications and other competencies:

  • Experience: At least 5+ years of experience as a senior business intelligence leader with a track record of delivering value-added executive level dashboards. Experience in a high-growth direct-to-consumer, consumer product consulting or e-commerce environment is highly desirable. 3+ years of experience with more than one business intelligence tool (Domo, PowerBI, Qlik, Spotfire, Tableau, etc.) is preferred.
  • Education: BA/BS is required, Business/Computer Science/Information Systems or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Problem Solving: Strong technical and business acumen, as well as great problem solving, social, and creativity skills. detailed oriented and leadership skills. Lead and participate in requirements gathering sessions, design workshops, and systems evaluations to create a strategic vision of reporting excellence.
  • Strategic Thinking and Execution Leadership: Ability to develop and execute architectural roadmap and related strategies that align with business goals to drive digital transformation.
  • Communication and Cooperation: Works closely with our Executive Leadership Team, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Product, IT Architecture, Engineering, and other functions across the company. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels. Willing to question the status quo to understand and influence business needs.
  • Innovation: A forward-thinking individual with a track record of implementing innovative solutions that enhance business processes to deliver a unique and differentiated user experience. A demonstrated track record for creating solutions that are efficient, effective and essential in a direct-to-consumer business.
