The Position

SNOWFLAKE SENIOR ENGINEER

We are looking for an IT specialist to join one of our teams in the Roche Informatics division.
In Roche Informatics we focus on delivering technology that evolves the practice of medicine and helps patients live longer, better lives.
The Platform where you would be working is a modern cloud data platform that enables the Data Mesh concept globally at Roche. The Snowflake team is a significant part of the platform foundation. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join the platform team and lead the Snowflake area. This role is critical to ensuring Snowflake’s performance, security, and cost optimization. Moreover, you would be responsible for collaborating with Snowflake platform consumers and evaluating newly released Snowflake features.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong experience in Snowflake administration, proactive monitoring and optimization (at least 3 years)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD practices and infrastructure-as-code principles.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, preferably in AWS.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and data privacy regulations.
  • A positive can-do attitude and great problem solving skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Experience in Data Mesh implementations will be advantageous

Responsibilities:

  • Acting as a Senior Engineer and Product Owner, who is coordinating and prioritizing the activities in the data engineering team, required to build and operate data platform based on Snowflake
  • Collaborating with Snowflake platform consumers (ie. Solution Architects, Data Engineers, etc) providing technical support and consultancy as well as comprehensive, cost effective and solid architectural proposals.
  • Supporting Snowflake FinOps strategy developing the dashboards, providing technical recommendations, guidance and assistance to the platform users in order to optimize Snowflake costs.
  • Defining and deploying a standardized and automated methods to monitor performance and consumption for Snowflake managed accounts
  • Implementing cost, compliance and security best practices, ensuring that Snowflake platform meets the corresponding requirements.
  • Supporting IT partners facilitating the on-boarding of their use cases and optimizing operational activities.
  • Evaluating newly released Snowflake features for added value, security, performance, and alignment with the platform’s mission statement.
