Mott MacDonald is a global management and development consultancy adding value to projects for public and private clients. Our social equity specialists work with clients to help them deliver socially inclusive outcomes and maximize the benefits of infrastructure development. We work on a varied range of projects, applying our skills across many sectors.
Due to increased focus in this area, and recently won contracts, we are looking for a Principal Consultant to join our team. We are looking for people who are interested in understanding how infrastructure interacts with the people using it and local communities. Successful candidates will be involved in managing inclusive and accessible design and planning assessments, impact assessments, stakeholder engagement planning and analytical projects. You will deliver assignments for our existing client base, liaise with new clients, and be involved in winning new work to grow the business. There will also be line management opportunities for experienced candidates, with the ability to grow your team. The location for this position will be Los Angeles, although other Southern California locations may be considered.

This is a senior role where you will work with our Regional Practice Leader for social equity outcomes as well as our local and regional network of social specialists and other colleagues involved in environmental sustainability and resilience to assist Mott MacDonald in responding to local client demand. This will include leading or supporting the following activities:

  • Driving and continuing to improve Mott MacDonald’s social outcomes strategy and approaches to delivering project services and benefits to local communities in Southern California
  • Engaging with clients and responding to client bid requests to meet clients’ social outcomes needs in different contexts and communities
  • Managing and delivering a range of projects in sectors including, but not limited to, transit, transportation, water, and energy
  • Working and coordinating with our design teams and specialty sub-consultants
  • Building Mott MacDonald’s external reputation for being a leader in social value and inclusion
  • Engaging with colleagues across the US and wider business on social outcomes
  • Attending and speaking at external events and undertaking external business development
  • Liaising with early career professionals and ensuring knowledge transfer
  • Contributing to action plans and presentations

We are looking for an individual with a passion for this subject area with the following attributes:

  • An excellent knowledge of best practice social equity, accessibility and inclusion delivery in infrastructure
  • Proven experience externally delivering social equity, accessibility and inclusion related services (assessments, analysis, appraisal, and engagement) on projects in a variety of sectors for a range of clients, preferably large-scale public sector projects and clients in Southern California
  • Proven experience of contributing to bids and winning work
  • Confidence in liaising with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, including listening, presenting and writing, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Experience in public speaking
  • An ability to build networks and mentor others
  • A proactive attitude towards innovation, leading initiatives and driving change
  • Ability to occasionally travel out-of-town.

Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000
