About the role
Sizewell C will continue the transformation of the nuclear construction industry started by Hinkley Point C. Sizewell C will generate enough low-carbon electricity for 6 million households and is expected to be operational for 60 years. It aims to aid a Just Transition by supporting 70,000 jobs and creating new opportunities for more than 3,000 supply chain companies across Britain. The project has aspirations to generate prosperity in East Suffolk, offering apprenticeships and well-paid careers to thousands of local school leavers.
Balfour Beatty, Lang O’Rourke and Bouygues form the Civils Works Alliance for Sizewell C. This represents circa £8bn opportunity for the supply chain. The CWA have a number of contractual KPIs, objectives and intentions Social Value and Environmental Sustainability objectives which must be met. Many of these will be delivered by or with the supply chain.
What you’ll be doing
The purpose of the role is: To lead and manage the commitments within the CWA Social Value Delivery Plan. This includes enabling Social Value activities and initiatives, providing input and review of deliverables, as well as reporting and communicating positive case studies.
The role requires collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders therefore excellent communication is key across multiple platforms and medias. A passion in creating great places and positive change is crucial to embed social value and educate the wider teams in this way of working, with a tenacious attitude to getting things done.

The role will report into the Alliance ESG Lead.

  • Lead the delivery and updating of the Social Value Delivery Plan for the CWA
  • Report on the delivery of outputs, raising to all risks & issues in delivery of all contractual KPIs
  • Develop the Social Value engagement strategy and engage project team in its delivery
  • Lead team meetings offering innovative solutions and sharing best practice
  • Manage stakeholders, using effective communications and build relationships with delivery partners, site teams and supply chain
  • Attend client meetings and project review meetings to report outputs, issues, and risks around sustainability targets
  • work with the sustainable procurement team to support targets being communicated effectively through the supply chain,
  • Monitor and evaluate all social value delivery tracking all outcomes
  • Keep up to date with current social value trends, including impact evaluation and measurement tools
  • Provide advice and support to operational teams on social impact matters
  • support and work with the client to engage with local communities and organisations.
  • Deliver Social Value training, toolbox talks and undertake onsite coaching.
  • Produce internal and external reports as required, e.g. case studies, Social value Performance.
  • Support and conduct audit and assurance activities including facilitating external audits by clients and certification bodies.
  • Assist in the development and production of key performance indicators and management reports.
  • Other duties as required.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Engage and develop relationships beyond the CWA ESG team, including relevant stakeholders at Sizewell C, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and the CWA, such as, the Procurement team, People team.
  • Provide training to the CWA commercial and procurement teams, as required, on the client’s sustainability requirements process for supply chain and sustainability topics such as carbon, social value etc.
  • Developing and promoting Social Value/Impact initiatives and innovations.
  • Promoting the EDF, SZC and Balfour Beatty Values across the SZC scheme.
    Who we’re looking for

Essential

  • Experience in developing and implementing social value strategies and initiatives in a construction setting
  • Understanding of Social Value impact measurement tools in the UK
  • Understanding of social value including both public and private sectors and their drivers within the Suffolk Region, linked to education, employment, and community regeneration.
  • Experience of Social Value frameworks, such as the UK Government’s Social Value Model and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals,
  • Experience of identifying key stakeholders and partners to aid KPI delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to operate in a range of environments.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong working knowledge of the construction sector
  • Team player and relationship manager across multiple stakeholders with a strong work ethic
