Description:

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent, or experience which demonstrated the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions, a high degree of verbal skill and the ability to make basic mathematical computations, including averaging.
Specialized Experience: Three years of experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in such programs as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.
Applicants for Social Service Assistant IV must possess at least one year of experience comparable to the Social Service Aid III in State government.
Social Service Aid III: Independently provides all supportive services for a unit or team; participates in team activities; does limited field work including checking with clients, encouraging them to use available resources, following up on cases on a periodic basis, relaying information, problems and observations to the professional staff.
Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
Driver’s License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that “….an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
(1) Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
(2) Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
(3) Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
(4) Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
