POSITION SUMMARY

Are you a registered Social Worker looking to highlight your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new and dynamic environment? We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Psychiatry department.
Under general supervision, works with other team members according to established standards and administrative policies in designing and running therapeutic programs geared to meet the needs of those patients requiring outpatient psychiatric treatment. Functions as a primary therapist for an individual client caseload as well as functioning as therapist or co-therapist in the group program.

Mills Memorial Hospital is a fully accredited 44-bed Acute Care facility and receives an average of 24,700 ER visits per year. Services include:

• 10-bed Psychiatric unit
• 3 surgical suites
• Three ICU beds
• Extensive Day Care service
• Community Cancer clinic
• Community based programs such as
• Chronic disease management
• Meals on wheels
• Diagnostic and specialist center
• CT and Nuclear Medicine services

Terrace The thriving community of Terrace is northern living at its best. Snow-capped mountains, pristine glacier-fed rivers, lakes and streams all add to the beauty of this community. The main industries in Terrace are communications, transportation and natural resources. The population is approximately 12,700. There are nine elementary schools, four secondary schools, and Northwest Community College and a UNBC campus. Check out Terrace where there is always something new to experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Social Work degree from a recognized School of Social Work.
• Registered with the BC College of Social Workers.
• A Master of Social Work degree is an asset for particular service assignments.
• Rudimentary knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical disorders, medical terminology, medications in current use and possible side effects, is an asset.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with patients and their families, all levels of hospital staff and representatives of related community agencies.
• Ability to make appropriate assessments in situations where the patient and family are under stress.
• Ability to take and record social histories and provide casework counselling.
• Ability to counsel in a grief situation.
• Ability to keep abreast of latest developments in the field to ensure high standards of patient care.
