Software Developer I

A Software Developer I participate as a member of the Information Technology (IT) group and will work with a distributed team of highly experienced software and infrastructure professionals to build mobile, location-based applications to coordinate emergency response activities, collect scientific data, and provide real-time mapping and analytics. The incumbent will also conduct on-site consulting with new clients to extend and configure applications. The Software Developer I will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced creative team and help solve the enterprise’s most difficult problems. This position may require limited travel and field operations. The Software Developer I report to the Director of Software Development. In this position, key responsibilities include:

Interview clients, users, and staff to map out and diagram business processes.

• Write software development stories: “[User] needs [Ability] for [Business Value]”.
• Capture requirements for sharing data with client partners and vendors.
• Design relational schemas to extend application functionality.
• Support client success by designing reports that analyze data.
• Focus on outcomes, not features.
• Perform such other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Above all, have a primary interest in web development.
• Desire to pair program (in person or remote) as driver or navigator.
• Negotiate; find common ground before focusing on differences.
• Attend daily stand-ups (in person or remote).
• Socialize ideas with developers, clients, and stake holders.
• Strong relational database design experience

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CREDENTIALS

• Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field(preferred);
• Previous front-end software development experience(5 years required);
• Proficient knowledge of Git version control system;
• Proficient knowledge of computer systems in Windows, Linux, and macOS environments;
