Description:

About
Revalue exists to deliver a fundamental step-change in the quality and integrity of carbon projects. We do this by rethinking projects from the ground up - slightly better is not good enough - in order to build confidence in the market and deliver impact at a planetary scale. Our world cannot afford anything less. This mission drives us every day.
Revalue Nature has raised $10 million in Series A funding to be the most innovative and trusted developer for nature on the planet. This new investment was co-led by Ecosystem Integrity Fund (EIF) and SJF Ventures, two leading venture firms focused on climate and impact. Join us on our journey to supercharge the world’s leading nature-based developers, reset the bar for quality in the carbon market, and protect and regenerate nature at a scale that makes our eyes water.
What we do
Revalue supercharges the world’s leading nature-based carbon projects developers. We provide them with the required technical support and competitive financing to go from the initial rapid assessment of potential project areas, to the first carbon credits issuance, and beyond. This is underpinned by our proprietary tech, which creates a step-change in accuracy, speed, automation, and level of insights.
Our team
Our global, diverse team sits across all time zones and has an exceptional track-record of designing and delivering high impact carbon projects globally. We have built long-term partnerships and are working in iconic landscapes with leading players in the nature conservation and restoration space. We offer great opportunities for our talent and we want this to be a place that allows you to do the best work of your life, while also focusing on balance outside of work.
Tasks
The Role
We seek a software developer to join our Product Labs engineering team, a remote-by-default collaboration-first product development team. In this role, you’ll be joining in the formation of a new product development team.
At this early stage of team formation, we are focused on hiring experienced generalists who can set a solid foundation and culture for the future growth of the Product Labs team. This means we prioritise engineers with experience in Extreme Programming (XP), Domain Driven Design and our chosen technology stack (React, TypeScript, and Rust/Kotlin).
This is a remote-first role, but we encourage dedicated in-person collaboration days at our London co-working space, making the UK a preferred location.

What You Will Do

  • Contribute to the sustainable delivery of quality software. You will produce code across the entire application stack. You’ll deliver well-tested and maintainable code, balancing sustainable quality with impactful velocity. You will do so primarily through collaborative pair and ensemble programming, but you may also do so independently by participating in peer-reviewed development when appropriate.
  • Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team. You will collaborate with our Product Director, scientific domain experts, designers and other engineers to perform continuous product discovery. You will work with other engineers to scope and run technical experiments, practice rigorous iteration and deliver value in small steps.
  • Support our customers. We believe in owning the products that we build. You will help the team define our KPIs, product SLOs, and alerting thresholds. You will participate in an on-call rotation to support issues that might affect our customers and help our team identify and reduce operational toil that limits our impact.
  • Support our teammates. It’s never too soon to begin mentoring other engineers. You’ll do so through pair programming, code reviews, daily communication with your team, giving and receiving thoughtful feedback, and helping your teammates grow.

Requirements
What You Bring to the Role

Ideally, you bring many of the following attributes to the table:

  • A love of nature. We are a mission-driven company with a strong affinity for conserving and restoring natural systems. To make hard things happen, our team must put mission over ego. You find purpose not only in personal growth but also in stopping climate change and biodiversity collapse.
  • Experience working across an application stack. You are familiar with the challenges common to data-intensive systems and browser-based applications. Don’t worry; we know you aren’t an expert at both, but you feel comfortable spanning the divide as necessary. You know how to balance risks and engineering efforts and are open to learning any languages, skills, and technologies we use by pairing with your teammates.
  • You’re familiar with geospatial concepts. You are familiar with concepts related to geospatial data or remote sensing. Perhaps you’ve built a map-based user experience or crafted geospatial queries for a proximity-based gaming app. You might not be a geospatial expert, but you’re comfortable discussing coordinate systems and the differences between vector and raster data.
  • A strong sense of collaborative teamwork. You are comfortable participating fully in the collaborative Extreme Programming approach to development, product discovery and teamwork. You believe by embracing collaborative practices, we are more likely to achieve our shared objectives, benefit our users through rapid delivery, grow together by sharing knowledge, and ensure that every teammate can get the rest and time away they need.
  • Comfortable supporting production software. You have experience shipping features to production and understand how to investigate and triage issues in your deployed code. You may have participated in an on-call rotation before and have opinions about making it an effective and positive experience.
  • An adaptive and curious mindset. As a startup in an evolving industry, we keep our roadmap malleable and open to change in search of new opportunities for impact. You have an open mind and are comfortable pivoting as and when needed in response to new insights into our customers’ needs.
  • You understand that customer value is what makes our work as engineers possible. It’s easy to get absorbed in inventing an engineering marvel and forget what problem we were meant to solve. You have the experience to keep things simple, revisit scope and work in small iterations.
  • Clear and open communication. We consider clear and thoughtful communication a fundamental engineering skill and a strong predictor of future impact. You demonstrate this in your contribution to documentation, collaborative problem-solving, and willingness to give and receive feedback.
  • Excited by distributed teams. You will be joining an international remote-working team with a proven ability to function effectively within diverse cultural environments. You’re comfortable with the challenge and excited by the freedom afforded to remote teams, are a self-driver with a willingness to take initiative within a complex and fast-growing sector

Don’t hesitate to apply despite only ticking some of these boxes. Our strength is in our diversity, and we look for individuals who bring something new to the team - background, skill, and perspective.
