Description:
The Software Developer of Unmanned Aerial System position exists to create and maintain custom software and programs supporting Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and related technologies and applications. The position supports applied research and development, modeling and simulation, data analytics, commercialization and technology transfer, consulting, and education and training efforts. The Software Developer works closely with the UAS department staff and reports to the Director for Applied Modeling and Simulation, Unmanned Aerial Systems.
REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in closely related field is required
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in software development, software or computer engineering, or related fields is required; Master’s degree in software development, software or computer engineering, or related fields is preferred
- Strong management, team building, team interaction, and conflict resolution skills is required
- Strong organizational and analytical skills are required
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external customers and partners is required
- Familiarity with and ability to use various programming languages including but not limited to at least one of the following is required: C++, Go, Java, R, Python, and SQL required
- Strong PC skills, including standard office, as well as UAS and software development industry specific software packages is required
- Ability to read, research, and comprehend proposal solicitation, technical, and regulatory documents is required
- Excellent oral and written communication and listening skills, including experience in preparing and delivering proposals, reports, and presentations is required
- Proven prior exceptional strategic planning and project management experience is preferred
- Experience in applied modeling and simulation related to airspace visualization and mission planning is preferred
- Background in UAS, AAM, related technologies, including traditional aviation experience, is preferred
- The ability to obtain and maintain a current Remote Pilot Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is preferred
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- U.S. Passport is preferred
Responsibilities:
- The Software Developer supports the Director for Modeling and Simulation in the development and maintenance of software in support of Unmanned Aerial Systems department internal project and externally funded efforts.
- Creation or maintenance of code, in a variety of languages
- Installation of programs on UAS hardware in support of applied research and development, modeling and simulation, data analytics, and instructional support tasks
- All activities will be coordinated through the Director of Modeling and Simulation and Executive Director and Chief Scientist, in cooperation with other UAS department and Information Technology department staff as required
