JOB SUMMARY

IQGeo is seeking a Software Engineer to be part of our Engineering team, building products that support our solutions for automated design of fiber networks. Examples include a large auto-scaling service to handle the long-running, compute-intensive tasks of designing such a network in the cloud; or a bespoke license platform that tracks large amounts of geospatial data. You’ll join an energetic team of enthusiastic, young high-potential people.

ABOUT US

Achieving universal broadband equity and meeting net zero carbon emissions are two of the biggest social and environmental challenges that the IQGeo team is tackling. To achieve this, more than 500 innovative telecommunications and utility companies around the world are “building better networks” using our award-winning geospatial software to deploy the fiber optic and distributed energy networks of the future. We play a vital role in helping utilities plan, design, construct and maintain the complex network assets essential to the success of our businesses and well-being of our communities. As a carbon neutral software company, we invite creative and talented people to join us in our mission to transform communication and utility networks for the long-term sustainability of our shared planet. Learn more about our customer stories.
Our Engineering teams are in Cambridge (UK), Denver (USA), Salt Lake City (USA), and Ghent (Belgium) and are responsible for designing and developing our geospatial products which are available both as cloud services and for on-premises deployment. You will be helping to develop the next generation of innovative geospatial products that support mission-critical operations for our global customer base.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

You’ll be enthusiastic, with a strong technical background in general software engineering. Essential skills are:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of developing in Java. You’ll have developed at least one set of enterprise-grade REST APIs that are deployed to a production system.
  • Profound knowledge of TypeScript and HTML design and development.
  • Experience with Angular or React. Products within the responsibility of the Ghent office use Angular, but React is prevalent within the broader company and may be used more in the future.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Desirable

Ideally, you’ll have several of the following:

  • Experience with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or web mapping.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure provider platforms (e.g. Amazon Web Services).
  • Experience of working in an Agile environment and understanding of the Scrum methodology.
  • Experience in any telecommunications and/or utility industry (e.g., fiber-to-the-home, smart grids, or district heating).

EDUCATION

Master’s degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent industry experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None.

As an integral part of the Engineering team, the successful candidate will be developing new product releases to meet the growing list of requirements for our existing products and new industry vertical applications. You’ll need to:

  • Design, implement, unit-test and maintain new additions to the software, while following our code and architecture guidelines. You are expected to work on a healthy mix of frontend and backend development.
  • Track down, isolate and resolve bugs.
  • Review code of fellow developers and process feedback after having your own code reviewed. Because we strive for high code quality, reviews are an integral part of our development processes.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to refine feature requests, ensuring a smooth transition from requirements to implementation.
  • Work in an agile environment, where you have frequent meetings with co-workers throughout the development cycle
